4-year-old crashes mom's car on way to grandma's house

A 4-year-old boy from Stanford, Ky., put his 2-year-old brother in a car with him and drove it into a ditch last weekend while his mother and her boyfriend were sleeping, authorities said yesterday.

    Neither boy was injured.

"I have never run across anything like this before in my life," said Lincoln County Sheriff Curt Folger, who added that the boy said he wanted to go to his grandmother's house.

Folger said the boy traveled about 350 feet in the car before hitting a couple of trees and going into the ditch.

Folger said that when he arrived at the scene he found the two boys outside the car.

"A passerby had discovered them and dialed 911," Folger said. "That's when we responded, and then notified the mother and the boyfriend."

Apparently, the boy and his brother got up that morning, took the keys from a table, went outside and drove the car out of the driveway, Folger said.

The boyfriend, identified as Douglas Bell, was charged with menacing after making gestures toward the two boys and an officer.

No charges have been filed against the mother. But Folger said the matter will be turned over to social services authorities.

EXACTLY what I was thinking, UC....Poor kids. Sounds suspicious to me. Why was the 4 yr. old so anxious to get to grandma's house and take baby brother in tow?...You got to wonder.

I think the 4 yo is smarter beyond his years.
Hopefully, Grandma & police will take some if not all of this into account.
