Kimberly Joy & John Herman Quebe kept their kids restrained

FULLERTON An Anaheim mother and father were charged Wednesday with abusing their children by binding their wrists and ankles and leaving them tied up for hours at a time, including occasionally overnight.

Kimberly Joy Quebe, 48, and John Herman Quebe, 47, are charged with 62 felonies, including false imprisonment by violence, child abuse, inflicting corporal injury on a child with great bodily injury, and torture.

The couple, who have been married for 21 years, has been living in Anaheim Hills for six years with their daughter, now 15, and son, now 11.

They are accused of frequently tying up the children for long periods of time to punish them for minor issues, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office. Some of the bindings lasted all night, requiring the children to sleep on the floor.

In addition, the Quebes also allegedly placed a latch six inches from the top of their son's door, out of his reach, and locking him in his room for hours.

Relatives were not allowed to see the children, who were kept out of school after the parents falsely claimed they were being home-schooled. The children were rarely allowed to leave the house or go outside.

The alleged mistreatment came to light when a citizen called the Orange County Social Services Agency and reported that the children were observed at a community pool with restraint marks and bruising on their wrists and ankles, said DA's spokesperson Farrah Emami.

Both children were taken into the protective custody by SSA, Emami said.

The Quebe's are being held on $1 million bail each pending arraignment Thursday at the North Justice Center in Fullerton.

Doesn't the state have some sort of oversight or testing to make sure the kids are actually learning something?

Beyond the disgusting abuse, the kids were being raised to be stupid. Shame.

Yes there is suppose to be something like an oversight and testing. You cant just homeschool children without the board of educators approval.

Anaslime Hills is a pretty affluent area. (I know their address in case anyone is interested and it doesn't look like they have the equity in their house for bond, either.) Kudos to the neighbors at the community pool for having enough sense to report it. Usually them-types just scowl at the riff raff and then stick their noses back in their InStyle mag, or roll up the windows to their BMW's and drive away on their high horse.

Are you their son? If so I hope things have improved for you. I heard they got 12 year sentences.

Yes I am, I am 15 now and I have been scared to post anything about this but I felt I am old enough now. Things are tough, but I am making amazing progress. I constantly search the internet and read the comments from what others have to say and I just laugh to myself because I think that I am not the only one who thinks they are evil and sick people. Anyway, to answer your question yes. I am glad they got 12 years. Thank you for your nice comment and thanks to everyone else.

I want to be able to reach out to as many people a I can so that I may help others overcome their fears and trauma. I don't know if you have heard of Dave Pelzer but his story is almost exactly like mine except he was in school and had the chance to socialize with other people even though most didn't like him, I on the other hand had no schooling weather that's Homeschool or private/public. And yet I have A's and B's in all my classes!

Sorry that it took me so long to reply to this, I haven't been on this site for a while.

I don't know about you all but when my kid drives me insane I ship her off to an activity not in the house. Like school, visit a friend or go to Grandma's! It's safe AND legal! Plus it is GOOD for my kid!

I am glad you are okay now. It takes time to overcome all the trauma but know that there are lots of kids like you who have grown up to become productive citizens of society. Helping others that are in the same situation you were once in is sort of like therapy for your soul. I wish you nothing but success.

I too read Dave Pelzer and he is one of my heroes. If he can overcome what he endured that means there is hope for you and many others. Go on and live your life to the fullest. Learn all you can, laugh as much as possible and never forget that YOU are made of steele, and no matter what life throws your way you will take it and do your very best. Hugs, kiddo

@badfish76 My sister graduated high school and is in college living on her own. We got to stay together through the whole time so that was good that we had each other.

Thanks for the update ebeuq14! Great to hear that things are going well, and you're doing so well in school. You're clearly smart and have a lot of strength to have risen above your mistreatment. As for your parents, I hope they are spending their long sentences feeling ashamed and regretful (if they are capable of such feelings) for their failings as parents and as humans.

Yes and as I said she graduated and is in college now and she's doing great! We get to see each other all the time so that's good.

Yes as do I. I wonder constantly though about what's gonna happen when they are released...should I let them see my kids (if I have any) and other questions. But as my family says, just worry about that when the time comes so I guess that's what I'll do. I'm really glad I found this forum...it helps me see how many other people think my parents are...well shall we say "B!$%#@ and B@#%#$%^. So anyway...thanks for all your support!
