A local man is facing a range of felony charges after a woman told police he molested her hundreds of times when she was younger, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case.
Terry Garrett, 46, was arrested Wednesday afternoon on eight counts of child molesting. He was being held Thursday in the Vanderburgh County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond.
The Evansville Police Department began investigating Garrett after the victim — now 21 — told detectives in an interview that Garrett molested her from the time she was 8 until she was 14, according to the affidavit.
Police said the alleged molestations started in 1995 at the victim’s Evansville home and continued over the years at different locations in the area.
The victim told authorities the incidents included a range of sexual acts, some of which “occurred on almost a daily basis,” according to the affidavit. Evansville Police Department Det. Jeff Minto, who investigated the case, said the victim told police the molestations happened “hundreds” of times.
The victim reportedly told detectives that Garrett would always cry after the sex acts and tell her how sorry he was. But the affidavit said he also told her “she forced him to do those things to her.”
Garrett is next due in court September 4.
