Ashley McClean, babysitter, leaves kid in car to hit the bar

OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma babysitter was arrested after police said she left a baby locked in a hot car while she went into a bar.

Ashley McClean, 23, was watching 1-year-old Slade Parks on Wednesday night while his parents were at the hospital awaiting the arrival of a new baby.

Kim Janes, Slade’s aunt, said McClean was supposed to take the boy to his parents’ apartment and put him to bed.

“I don’t know what she was going to do, but she was going to Scooter’s,” Janes said. “So she left the baby in the car, in his car seat, with the windows rolled up.”

“I was bartending,” said Scooter’s manager David Martin. “They just told me somebody left a child out there in a car. Security guards spotted Slade and called police.” “It was hot in there, said Janes. “He was sweating profusely. I’m sure he was scared to death." “I couldn’t imagine it happening. I can’t imagine people doing stuff like that,” said Martin.

While Martin said he was upset about the situation, the child’s father said he was angry. “We got a phone call from police saying they had Slade and they were bringing him to the hospital and they found him locked in a car in Scooter’s parking lot,” said Brandon Parks. Parks said the first words that came to his mind are not ones that he could say on television.

Ashley McClean could face charges for child neglect and endangerment and for obstructing a police officer. Slade’s father said she deserves whatever she gets.

He had much more restraint than I would. I trust next to no one with my kids.

wow - the fact that the kid was discovered & saved is a blessing. how truly traumatic for the parents - off 2 welcome a new arrival - then getting the police cal that your other child is on his way 2 join u, just not 4 emotional support. jiminy! i say bless the bar papatrons who were sober enough to notice eaving a toddler in a car was NOT a good idea, no matter how many beers u might b able 2 knock back!

Thankfully a happy ending this time, but we all know too often that these parents would of never believed how close to death their one baby was while they were happily receiving another...(at least you hope "happy"). DON'T TRUST PEOPLE WITH YOUR KIDS!!!!

I wonder why the 1yr old was with this woman in the first place and not another family member. I don't know about the rest of you ladies, however when I had IOspawn#2 my eldest child was with my father. When I had Nadezdha my kids were with my ex husband (my parents were at the hospital with me because of the complications). Hell when my brothers were born I was with my Aunt....

It's so fucked up that this woman did this, perhaps she was bitter that she was too fugly to have a baby of her own. At least this little one ended up safe in the end and with his parents. Of that, someone had to be watching over him.

Once I have kids, I will only trust a babysitter if they pass a lie detector and piss test in addition to presenting 30 letters of recommendation and an FBI background check...and possibly a full cavity search, though not by me.

She has already bonded out and so far, no charges have been filed. She is also looking at an animal cruelty charge....there were 2 dogs left in the car as well.
According to a police report, Enid Police Department received a call about 12:53 a.m. to check the welfare of a child in a vehicle at Scooters, 3630 N. Van Buren. Officers found a child strapped into a car seat in “obvious distress,” along with two dogs.

The windows of the car were rolled up, and the vehicle was not running. Officers forced their way into the locked vehicle and removed the boy — then nine days short of his second birthday — from the vehicle.

McLean told officers several stories when they spoke with her at 1:15 a.m. but said she had “stopped by the bar to drop something off,” according to the report. McLean told police she had “tasted some friend’s drinks” while at the bar. Officers said they believed the boy and the dogs had been in the car for 20 to 50 minutes before they arrived.
