Kirk Gaither and Lakeshia Huff
SAN ANTONIO -- Three people are in custody Monday evening after police said they beat and tortured a woman Sunday morning.
Kirk Gaither, 25, Lakeshia Shanett Huff, 29, and Matthew Gaither, 21, were all charged with aggravated kidnapping, according to an arrest affidavit.
The trio is accused of beating the 24-year-old victim, dragging her by her hair and taking her to a home on Nolan Street, according to the affidavit. At the home, the victim was strapped to a chair and beaten with a 2-by-4, a television and a belt, as well as having her teeth pulled out with pliers, according to the affidavit.
The younger Gaither is accused of burning the victim's breasts and genital area with a hot spoon, according to the affidavit.
The victim told police she was able to break free from the chair and run to a nearby home for help after Matthew Gaither fell asleep, according to the affidavit. She was taken to University Hospital in poor condition and is recovering from her injuries, police said.
On Sunday morning, police responding to an apartment on Nolan Street for a call of an assault in progress found a woman sitting on the front porch bloodied and beaten, according to a police report. She was the alleged victim of multiple forms of torture applied for up to eight hours straight overnight, said department spokesman Joe Rios.
Bound to a chair and choked unconscious with a telephone cord, the woman was beaten with numerous objects, including a television and an umbrella, the affidavit said. She also had her front teeth “pulled out with a wrench,” the affidavit said, but was able to untie herself and escape about 9 a.m. Sunday when one of her attackers fell asleep.
According to the report, the woman grew impatient while waiting for a friend and drove off with his Cadillac, prompting the alleged torture after she was found with the Cadillac at another friend's house.
