Trial Begins in Child Abuse Case Involving Car Wash Pressure Washer

Niurka Ramirez, 22, turned herself in to police in March after security footage of the incident was released. She was charged with felony child abuse.

The girl was examined by a public health nurse at the time of Ramirez's arrest and was found to have no visible injuries. She is under the care of relatives and said to be in good condition since the incident, MyFOXOrlando.com reported.

Surveillance tape shows the woman getting out of a white Hyundai Elantra and putting money into a pressure washer. Another woman is seen bringing the girl out of the car. As the child tries to get away, one of the women sprays her with the high-pressure hose.

The woman sprayed water at the child's legs, chest and face. She then stripped the wet clothes off her, leaving her nude in the wash bay, authorities said. The child was dressed into dry clothes before the suspects fled.

"It stings, it burns,” car wash manager Marlene Diaz told MyFOXOrlando.com of the hose, which was on high power. “I've heard stories where this type of pressure, it forms like a rug burn and can actually take off the top layer of the skin."

Ramirez claims she is not guilty.

This chick was on 20/20 last week saying she took her out of the car to hose her down because she was screaming and she thought it would CALM HER DOWN! Seriously, that is the reason she is giving. She also regained custody of her daughter and is pregnant right now with a boy. She says she made a mistake but she is a good mom and her daughter wasn't hurt because the pressure washer was on low. But the manager says there is no low, it is simply a pull trigger wand with either off or on, no high or low.

Probation for mother who power-washed child

ORLANDO, Fla.–A mother who was videotaped spraying her young daughter with a high-pressure water hose at an Orlando car wash has pleaded no contest to assault.

A judge sentenced Niurka (Nicki) Ramirez to one year supervised probation on Monday.

Prosecutors had dropped the more serious charges – felony child abuse and culpable negligence – from the February incident.

Ramirez had said she was trying to discipline her two-year-old daughter for throwing a temper tantrum.

She told authorities she did not use the high-pressure feature on the hose when spraying the child.

A nurse reported the girl had no visible injuries 11 days after the incident.
