A 42-year-old woman was found dead in a pickup following a crash in Bismarck on Thursday morning.
Bismarck police identified the victim as Tammy Paoni of Bismarck.
Bismarck Police Sgt. Mark Buschena said no one witnessed the crash at 21st and Thayer. A man reported seeing Paoni’s 2000 Ford pickup before and after the crash, giving police some clues as to when the crash occurred.
The man reported driving by Lucky’s Bar, 2176 E. Thayer Ave., at 4:05 a.m. Thursday on his way to pick up a friend for work. A pickup in the parking lot caught his eye because the dome light was on, and he thought it was strange to see a vehicle parked at the bar at that time. The man picked up his friend on the 600 block of North 21st Street, then saw the pickup against the sign pole at the southeast corner of the intersection of 21st Street and Thayer Avenue. The crash was reported at 4:08 a.m.
Paoni was the only occupant of the pickup and was dead when officers arrived, Buschena said. The pickup was still running. Buschena said it appears the pickup traveled southwest out of the Lucky’s Bar parking lot and straight into the cement sign pole.
The case remains under investigation. Paoni’s pickup had an estimated $5,000 in damage.
