Mom Alledgedly Asks Children To Kill Grandparents

Leticia M. Silva, 31, of Lakeland, Fla., is charged with four counts of first-degree solicitation to commit murder. She was being held in the Pitt County jail under a $5 million secured bond.

Investigators said Silva contacted her children in December and asked them to kill their grandparents. The couple lives in Pitt County and has permanent custody of the children.

The grandparents learned of the alleged plot last month, prompting the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office to investigate. The children revealed that Silva mailed a knife to them, authorities said.

The grandparents, who live on King's Road in Greenville, have permanent custody of the children. Neighbors said the kids are 7 and 9 years old.

Deputies said they began their investigation on Feb. 4, after the grandparents found out about the alleged plot. According to authorities, the children told them their mother had mailed a knife to be used as the murder weapon.

The grandparents told NewsChannel 12 they found the blade, similar to a steak knife, under the pillow of one of the girls. They said they contacted authorities after they made the discovery.

A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said the children would never have carried out the alleged plot.

"They are the sweetest little girls and I don't think they'd hurt anybody," the neighbor said. "The grandparents are doing a wonderful job raising them."

The suspect, Leticia Silva, refers to herself as "Lethal" on her Facebook page.

I'm guessing grandparents didn't monitor the kids mail? Maybe I'm over protective but I always read the mail my kids get from their birth parents 1st, you just never know.

I have caught many of things that my young children didn't need to see including the fact that birth mother tried to tell them we stole them.

The reading the mail thing goes against my grain totally too. But... in a case such as this, where the birth mom has fairly obvious mental health issues (nobody with all their marbles mails a knife to grade school kids to carry out a plot to kill two people) that can harm the kids sense of well being, safety and security, I would totally be intercepting any correspondence and listening in on phone calls too. Mommy here is whacked out. Thank God for the grandparents.
