Authorities said Tuesday that a 22-year-old Amarillo man has confessed to the fatal Fourth of July beating of his grandfather.
Police say Jacob Howe was attempting suicide at a home on Wapiti Lane when his mother, Penny Howe, intervened, according to a criminal complaint filed in Potter County District Court on Tuesday.
Jacob Howe allegedly struck his mother in the face and 72-year-old David Spurgeon then tried to help the woman, the complaint said.
Howe allegedly punched Spurgeon in the head and stomped on him with his feet. Spurgeon was found unconscious by police, suffering from severe head injuries.
Spurgeon died Sunday at Northwest Texas Hospital. A preliminary autopsy revealed that he died from blunt-force trauma. The injuries were consistent with a beating, Trupe said.
Howe, now being held at the Potter County jail, so far is being charged with one count of aggravated assault against a family member and one count of injury to an elderly person.

Asshole.....
If he still wants to commit suicide, I'd be more than happy to assist him.
