Francis Duane Masar stabbed his wife w/a curtain rod

MARY ESTHER - A man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly stabbed his wife with a curtain rod.


Francis Duane Masar, 52, of Mary Esther, was charged with two counts of battery, three counts of false imprisonment, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of tampering with a victim.

Anya Masar told deputies that her frightening ordeal began after watching a fireworks display Thursday night. She said Masar had been drinking and the two had been arguing. Masar then grabbed his wife by the hair and arms, dragging her to the car and forcing her to drive, according to a Sheriff's Office offense report.


The woman tried to get away, but Masar locked her in the bedroom of their home at 221 Paschel Ave. Friday brought more violence, according to the offense report.


Anya Masar reported that she and her husband had gone to see Masar's daughter and he had been drinking again. On the car ride home, she said he became angry and punched her in the face, leaving bruises on her lip and chin. When they returned home, she said he grabbed her by the hair and threw her onto their bed and told her she wasn't going anywhere. Anya Masar told deputies he locked the door and said he'd kill her before she cost him his job.

Anya Masar said that she was trying to get help Sunday when her husband dragged her to the bedroom and locked the door again. She said she tried to get the bedroom window open and her husband took a fallen curtain rod and attempted to stab her in the stomach. According to the offense report, the woman was able to block the rod with her foot. Masar then stabbed the rod into her left foot.


The woman told deputies she was unable to control the bleeding and Masar agreed to take her to the hospital. However, she said, when she was ready and trying to leave he said, "You are not going anywhere." He then threw her to the ground and began dragging her around the house by the hair.


According to the report, she said she broke free and ran to her daughter's room where she tried to call 911, but Masar damaged the phone line. She managed to get her cell phone and dial 911, yelling for help. Masar broke the phone and told his wife he was going to kill her. He said she was going to let her bleed to death and say it was an accident, the report said.
