12 y.o. girl shot in head, 11 y.o. boy faces charges

LAVERGNE, Tenn.- Police said a 12 year old girl was shot in the head at a home in LaVergne, and an 11 year old is facing aggravated assault charges.

Rutherford County Emergency officials responded to a home on Mabel Drive in the Lakeforrest subdivision after they got a phone call that a child was shot.

Police said an 11 year old boy went into his parents' bedroom and got out their gun. A 12 year old girl then entered the bedroom. Police said the gun discharged and girl was shot in the head. There were two 11 year olds, the 12 year old who was shot, and a 16 year old. There were no adults present at the time of the shooting.

Investigators removed evidence from the house. Initially, the sheriff in Rutherford County said they had not determined if the shooting was an accident or intentional. The 11 year old who shot the weapon was being held for questioning at the LaVergne police station. He is now facing aggravated assault charges. He will spend the night in a juvenile facility.

The 12 year old victim is in critical condition at Vanderbilt Hospital.

I have no problem with people owning guns. I just don't want one. My neighbors are both "heavily armed" and my rottie would tear an intruder to shreds.

I believe you should have proof of a locking cabinet or safety lock in order to have a gun in a home where children are present.

Why is it that is seems that boys get ahold of the unlocked guns more than girls do? Hmmmm?

Sorry. That was flippant. I suspect they have been encouraged to show an interest. And boys still play relatively more cops-and-robbers games and girls still play relatively more house......

I hope these kids pulls through, even if it is going to be up-hill, - especially for the girl who was shot in the head. *shudders*

We are glad you pulled through.
But since you are 16 and therefore technically a minor, leave this site and don't return until you are 18. I say that simply because there are stories here you shouldn't read after what you have been through.

Thank you for posting and sharing the update with us. @Jaded wrote it up. That was big news, unfortunately we do not get many of the victims coming here to share how they ended up. However, there seems to be many of the accused and their families to defend them.
I wish you luck, I am curious what happened to the 11 year old boy.

You know I would normally agree with you but...
This person got shot in the head. She has seen the abyss; faced her mortality, most adults cannot say the same. Shielding her from the content of this site is kind of moot don't you think?

@TheMorningStar and @Obsolete. I'm not trying to be rude nor am I trying to kick her off of here. After what she has been through, she has earned the right to call herself a grown woman.
I just feel that stories on here will have her revisit her traumatic experience. What's important is her health and mental health. I cannot even imagine what she's going through.

I wasn't questioning your intent, I was questioning your delivery. You could have been nice and still made your point. Remember, you're talking to a young victim, not a tard defender.

Thank you for your concern . But I talk about that day almost everyday . There is nothing I can do to change it . It has already happened and I'm thankful for being here . But thank you again .
