HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A Greensburg man has been charged with kidnapping and raping his ex-girlfriend on Friday, one day after he had been released from jail.
Curtis Emil Scharer, 34, first went to the woman's home on Zeller Street in Hempfield Township and cut the utility lines around 5 a.m., police said.He also slashed the tires of a car parked at the house, police said.
Scharer's ex-girlfriend and another man, 52-year-old Gino Irvin, came out of the house and Scharer punched Irvin, police said.
Scharer then took the woman into a wooded area near the home, where he physically and sexually assaulted her, state police Trooper Jeanne Martin said.
The victim was able to get away and contacted police, who found Scharer in the wooded area and arrested him.
Scharer faces several charges including rape, sexual assault, aggravated assault, kidnapping, stalking and terroristic threats.
He was previously being held in the Westmoreland County Prison awaiting court on an assault charge until he was released Thursday.
In that previous alleged assault, Irvin said his front teeth were knocked out and the woman was dragged out of the house naked.
