"Old School Principles" Cause 92yo To Go Ballistic On His Daughter

A 92-year-old man is in the Orange County Jail, accused of trying to kill his daughter.

Deputies arrested Benjamin King on Thursday.

His daughter said he first hit her in the head with a frying pan. She said he then grabbed a gun and tried to shoot her, but the gun jammed, deputies said.

After she wrestled the gun out of her father's hands, the victim said King then tried to stab her, according to deputies.

She told deputies she thinks her father was upset his grandson and his fiancée were sleeping in the same bed.

When Orange County deputies arrived at Benjamin King's home on the 1200 block of Linton Avenue, he had bloodied arms and shins. His arrest affidavit said his injures happened during a brawl with his adult daughter, Patricia Pernacchia.

Pernacchia, who lives with her father and is his caretaker, told deputies King had never been abusive in the past. She also said they had recently gotten into an argument because she allowed her adult son and his fiancée to sleep in the same bed and he thought that was "against his old school principles."

She was at her father's home Thursday morning when he came from the kitchen and hit her over the head with a heavy frying pan from behind.

When Pernacchia didn't pass out from the blow to the head, King tried to hit her again. Pernacchia wrestled the pan from his hand and he demanded to see her head, saying he had "hoped (the pan) was heavy enough to kill her," the affidavit said.

After Pernacchia got ahold of the pan, King reached for his .22-caliber pistol and shot at his daughter twice.

Both times, the gun failed to discharge and Pernacchia was able to wrestle the gun from him as well.

During the fight for the gun, deputies say King attempted to load a bullet into the chamber of the gun and clear any obstructions that had prevented firing when he pulled the trigger twice before.

Pernacchia managed to get to a phone to call for help. While she was on the phone with 911 dispatchers, King went to the kitchen to grab a knife. Pernacchia said she had to slam the drawer shut on his hand to stop him.

King is now being held in the Orange County Jail without bail. Pernacchia said she thinks he may have some kind of psychological problem.

Gee-Wiz! If he was just 20yrs younger her ass would be dead meat.
I want to have pity on him because of his ass but I just don't got any. He must have his mind or he wouldn't be at home with a gun in his reach, he's probably driving as well, so fuck him.

He was at home but it says she lived there as his "caregiver"... whatever that means. As for having a gun within his reach, you are assuming that people are not stupid with where they keep guns. If they weren't stupid about it, little kids and angry teens (or people on the brink of senility) wouldn't be in the news for shooting people.

I don't feel sorry for him but do find the story odd. My parents have similar notions about unmarried folks sleeping together under their roof but I would never expect them to get violent about it. Luckily, they have no guns so all I would have to worry about (if I was so disrespectful) is a huge ass fry pan.

My wife and I were together for 8 years before we got married... lived in our own apartment and everything, but my parents would not let us sleep on the same floor let alone the same bed until after we got married. We respected their wishes, but not for fear of being clobbered/shot/stabbed but because it was their house...

True Dat DV. My husband is into guns quite heavily and is insanely safe about everything, I forget how unsafe some people actually are with them I suppose.
I hope we get some more insight in to the story.

Old Man is 92. His daughter is probably in her 60s or 70's. Her son, the grandson in question is likely to be in his 30's or 40's. He's too old to be dictated to like a child. I'd like to know why Old Man is taking his frustration out on his daughter to the extent of trying to kill her, if he's really mad about his very adult grandson's behavior. It seems personal to me. But then I would take a murder attempt personally.

Asking someone to respect your wishes while in your own home is hardly being "dictated to like a child". I do not go into my adult children's homes and expect them to follow my wishes because I am "an adult". I follow the rules of their home even if I disagree with them. I am free to stay at a hotel if I am that adamant about disagreeing with their rules. The same goes for when my kids visit me. I expect them (and their kids) to follow the rules of my home. It's a mutual respect kind of thing and has nothing to do with being treated like a child.

So this could be more a disagreement over whether this is his house that she lives in as his caregiver, or her house where he happens to live as a dependent parent. Her given the son permission to sleep in the same bed as his fiancée would then be seen by Old Coot as insubordinate daughter usurping his power..... Hence the attack on her, rather than the grandson.

It's funny how sex is a far more greater sin then attempted murder.
