Argument About Cheetos Leads to Fatal Stabbing in Downtown St. Louis

An unidentified man was killed last night in the 600 block of Washington Avenue (above). Witnesses told police the victim, described as a 42-year-old black man, and the suspect, a 49-year-old black man, were arguing over a bag of Cheetos when the suspect pulled out a folding knife and stabbed the victim in the chest.

[....] He has not been notified pending notification of his family. The suspected murderer was arrested not far from the crime scene. Police also recovered the weapon. He will be ID'ed when/if formal charges are filed.

An argument that started over a bag of Cheetos ended with a knife in a man’s chest.

David L. Scott, 49, now faces a second-degree murder charge, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

He got into a dispute with 42-year-old Roger Wilkes about the Cheetos outside a St. Louis train station Tuesday evening, and allegedly stabbed him in the chest once.

Bike patrol officers chased Scott for a few blocks before catching up to him and arresting him. The knife was recovered at the scene of the stabbing.

Wilkes was rushed to a local hospital, where he died later.

Cops initially believed both men were homeless, but later found St. Louis addresses for both.

Scott was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

He has an extensive criminal history that includes assault, burglary and the robbing of a post office,
