Inmate Enoch Hall raped and killed corrections officer

An inmate, with a criminal history of rape and kidnapping charges, raped and killed a female corrections officer at the Daytona Beach prison Wednesday, police said.

Detectives are interviewing inmate Enoch Hall, 39, in the murder of Officer Donna Fitzgerald, a 13-year veteran of the Tamoka Correctional Institution. Corrections records show that Enoch had been sentenced to life in prison for charges of sexual battery with a weapon and kidnapping stemming from a 1993.

Fitzgerald, 51, of Port Orange, was on duty at the time of the attack, according to jail records.

OMG - This is horrendous. I can't even fathom why this would happen. He's already in for life and additional charges wouldn't have changed it but he didn't have to kill her. I hope it was quick.

Officials at the prison said Fitzgerald entered a warehouse area around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday after lights-out lockdown and found Hall hiding and was attacked.

Maybe he wants the DP. He certainly doesn't deserve less. And for the record, I don't think that female correction officers should be dealing with sexually violent male prisoners.
