Clifford Garel Tells Cops, "I Beat the Sh*t Out of My Mom," Age 84

DENVER -- A 62-year-old man has been charged in an attack on his mother and father in their southwest Denver home.
Clifford Andrew Garel was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree, second-degree assault on an at-risk adult, and third-degree assault on an at-risk adult.
The charges allege that over several days in July, Garel assaulted his 84-year-old mother and 83-year-old father and did not allow them to leave their bedroom. He is also accused of withholding food and medication.

The three live together on East Quincy Avenue in Denver.
According to an arrest affidavit, the abuse happened over a three-day period.
An arrest affidavit stated Garel restrained and abused his mother, even twisting her leg so hard that skin tissue separated and dangled from her calf. Police said when they found the man's mother she had "severe bruises covering her entire body." The woman's husband was assaulted when he attempted to defend his wife, the affidavit said.
The two were kept in a bedroom of the house with Garel posting himself outside the door, the affidavit stated.
Police were called when the couple managed to get to a cordless phone and call for help. When police arrived to check out the call, Garel answered the front door and said, "I beat the s*** out of my mom," the affidavit stated.
Garel remains jailed in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

I hope the parents are able to heal and cut this jerk out of their lives . Too many times with elderly abuse in a family situation you see the parents forgiving the kids and the abuse happens again .

WTF is that guy's problem? They wouldn't give him their money? Let him move in? Wanted him to move out? Three days of beating his mom!! Huh? Couldn't he man up and run away?

I have a feeling what I am about to say is going to be unpopular and I want everyone to know that I am not referring to this specific story but rather stories like this in general. When I read about elder abuse it upsets me but there always lurks in the back of my mind a little voice that wonders if it's payback time. I know that sounds awful, and I don't condone anyone abusing another person, but when it's an adult child abusing an elderly parent there is a small part of me that wonders if they are reaping what they have sown. So many people equate age with sweetness and vulnerability so we have a knee jerk reaction when awful things happen to them, but unlike children they have had a lifetime to do things to other people that may be catching up to them. Karma, if you will. We have seen plenty of stories on here where senior citizens have been featured for the heinous and hateful things they do to their families and strangers.

Regardless, this guy is an asshole for terrifying and beating his parents.

...their 83 & 84 ffs! Starving someone to death is a cold blooded thing to do especially your elderly parents.
Razors pain you, rivers are damp, acid stains you, drugs cause cramps, gun aren't lawful, nooses give, gas smells awful, you might as well live.

You aren't the only one that thinks that way. I do the same. I always ask myself if the beatdown is somehow a payback too. My mind is warped, and I always suspect....

I also wonder that. However, I also think, "Hey, if they were world-class asshole parents, whatever happened to leaving their house, and leaving them to grow old and die without your ass there to hear their complaints and hold their hands?" I think staying around indicates there's blame to go around.
