Thomas M. Anderson daughter did not want to leave mommy and daddy

Afraid to leave the side of her parents during their latest domestic dispute, a 4-year-old girl watched her father shoot her mother to death Friday afternoon before he killed himself, state police said.

The confrontation was initiated by Thomas M. Anderson Jr., 27, of Taylor Avenue, Utica, and escalated until he ended up shooting his estranged girlfriend, Kylie A. Turczyn, 23, multiple times in the head and torso as she hid inside the bathroom of her residence at 101 Carver St., police said.

He then reportedly turned the 9mm carbine rifle on himself with a shot to the head.

The couple broke up in November, police said, and Friday's attack on Turczyn was possibly planned well in advance as Anderson snuck into the house around 1:25 p.m. and eventually went outside to grab the weapon he brought with him.

"We're still trying to pin that down," state police Capt. Mark Lincoln said at a late-night news conference regarding Anderson's intentions on confronting Turczyn.

    Friday's events unfold

Police said they have responded to domestic disputes there in the past, and Turczyn called state police in Marcy at about 1:30 p.m. Friday stating she wanted to talk to a specific trooper about her ex-boyfriend.

Police said she was living there with her parents -- who were not home when the shooting happened -- but her sister and her sister's child were present.

Turczyn at one point locked herself in the bathroom as her sister and the other child fled from the house, police said, but Turczyn's 4-year-old daughter stayed behind.

"She didn't want to leave her mom and dad," Lincoln said.

This happened Friday in my neck of the woods, very sad.The story continues but I was unsure if it is against the rules,I swear it is.The gossip around town is long story short, the victim was trying to get help in getting the nut job to leave her alone.I know a lot of people who know her parents including my mom.

    DEERFIELD —
Many questions still surround the murder-suicide that occurred Friday afternoon in Deerfield, but Michele Anderson knows one thing for certain: “My son was not a monster.”

The relationship between her son, Thomas “TJ” Anderson Jr., 27, of Taylor Avenue, Utica, and his estranged girlfriend, Kylie A. Turczyn 23, of 101 Carver St., Deerfield, was anything but stable, Michele Anderson said.
    http://http://www.uticaod.com/latest...murder-suicide

“They were both just as wrong,” Michele Anderson said. “It was an unstable, dysfunctional, twisted relationship.”

Turczyn’s family did not respond to calls for comment. Representatives from Nunn & McGrath Funeral Home in Utica said the family did not want to speak to the press.

A confrontation, initiated by Thomas Anderson, Friday at Turczyn’s Carver Street address, quickly escalated, state police said.

Thomas Anderson shot Turczyn multiple times in the head and torso, resulting in her death, before turning the 9mm carbine rifle on himself, while their 4-year-old daughter, Gabriella, watched, state police said.

The details surrounding the confrontation and its cause are still unknown.

Michele Anderson said her son had no criminal record.

“My son was tormented,” she said. “Not that what he did was right. We’ll never understand what happened.”

In the past, Thomas Anderson and Turczyn had fought over custody issues regarding Gabriella, Michele Anderson said. “His daughter was his whole world.”

Turczyn was the custodial parent, though she shared custody of Gabriella with her parents, Michele Anderson said.

Things really started to fall apart in fall of last year, when Thomas Anderson, who was until then a straight-A student, failed out of nursing school, Michele said. “He was depressed and he fell apart, he stopped working, everything stopped.”

He recently applied to the radiology program at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, she said. “He was struggling to get his life together.”

Police said Friday the couple broke up in November.

Michele Anderson said the couple had been seeing each other “on and off” from January until about April.

They had been in a relationship for about six years, she said.

Michele Anderson said her son and Turczyn had spent the night at their home the Wednesday before the incident.

Turczyn was living at the Carver Street address with her parents, who were not home when the shooting happened, but her sister and her sister’s child were present, police said.

Turczyn was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday, however results were not available.

Thomas Anderson’s family will host a candlelight vigil in memory of their son Monday night.

To see both Anderson and Turczyn's obituaries check online and in print Monday.

What a douche. Sorry I know it's wrong to speak ill of the dead but it needs to be said every now and again. It was premeditated murder he already knew what it would take to set her off to make him angry enough to get that gun and kill her. Wish he would have just killed himself when her words became too much for him too handle. Thank God her parents has custodial rights as well so it'll save this little girl from a familial tug o war.

So this little girl was his "whole world", so to prove that he murders her mommy and then himself right in front of her? The only thing he's saved her from is having a normal life; that poor kid will most likely be scarred for the rest of hers, poor critter. :(

It's very easy to say how saintly someone was after they're dead; hard to put much credence to his mother's account, though, when he acted the way he did. Actions speak louder than words, and all that...

Sorry mom, you're son WAS a monster. There may be some truth to his mother's claim that her son was tormented and tortured by his ex-girlfriend, I think we've all known someone either first-hand or peripherally who has gone through something like this either with a kid(s) involved or not, but that is no excuse for what he did. Maybe he wasn't a monster before but the moment he repeatedly shot his daughter's mother he became one.
I'm not saying you're stupid, I'm just saying you have bad luck when it comes to thinking.

I have to agree with Darsa, actions speak louder than words, and went back to the car and got a gun and killed his child's mother and then himself... if she was so horrible then why was his mother letting her stay at her house the Wednesday before.... He was not a good guy and has left this child parentless... how very very sad.....

He is a monster for many reasons. One & two are he killed his own child's mother and himself in front of their young child.

I am sure that if we were to keep digging, we can come up with many more reasons why her son's is NOT a good person.

While I'm sure that the murder was premeditated, I'm thinking that the suicide was not planned so much as it was impulsive. When the gravity of the situation hit him, he reached into his bag of good choices and came up empty... again, so out with the sack o' sad choices. I hope that the memory will fade quickly for her and that she can have somewhat of a normal life...

    UTICA —
Less than a week before she was gunned down by an estranged former boyfriend, 23-year-old Kylie Turczyn told Utica police she feared for her safety, authorities said Monday.

Because the incidents occurred outside Utica, however, Turczyn was told early last week to contact the proper police agency and to seek help through Oneida County Family Court, officials said.

But what Turczyn did next and whether she ever took steps to get a court order of protection still remain unclear.

In the meantime, authorities still are probing the events surrounding Turczyn’s murder on Friday at the hands of her former boyfriend, Thomas “TJ” Anderson Jr., to determine whether anything could have been handled differently.

“We can’t prosecute anybody in this case because the perpetrator is dead, but if there was a flaw in the system, if there was something that went wrong, we need to look at that and make a determination so this doesn’t happen in the future,” Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara said. “Did something go wrong? At this point, it’s too early to say.”

Anderson, 27, of Utica, shot Turczyn repeatedly in the torso with a 9 mm rifle shortly before 1:30 p.m. while she cowered in the bathroom at her parents’ residence on Carver Street in Deerfield. An autopsy determined that Turczyn was not shot in the head.

Anderson then turned the gun on himself, ending a rollercoaster of domestic incidents and custodial disputes involving their 4-year-old daughter, Gabriella.

    Previous charges dropped

McNamara plans to look at when Turczyn previously pressed charges against Anderson in early 2011 after she said he threatened to kill her following an argument. Turczyn later recanted her statement and told prosecutors that she “lied and made everything up” just to get back at Anderson for having sex with another girl, McNamara said.

Anderson’s harassment and contempt charges were dropped, and Turczyn pleaded guilty in March 2011 to making a false written statement, a misdemeanor, McNamara said.

Although Turczyn insisted at the time that she hadn’t been threatened to change her story, McNamara said he is already reviewing their video recorded statements to determine if any lessons can be learned in hindsight.

What’s clear at this point is that Turczyn met with Utica police domestic violence Investigator Elizabeth Shanley at the city police station early last week, police said. Because Turczyn was familiar with Shanley from past incidents, Turczyn reached out to Shanley regarding concerns about her safety.

Just as I thought,Officer Shanley is a good person and a excellent DV officer,I know from personnel experience.I found a picture of the victim and I don't think it is a good idea too post it,the family has had no contact with the media but let me say,how absolutely beautiful she was.Not sure if it is true but the rumor is that she did try to get in touch with the DV worker at family court....and I know they are backed up there but the worker, I don't want too mention her name is amazing also. This really bothers me,poor girl may she rest in peace. The article continues at the link.
