LANCASTER – A youngster in Iron Man pajamas was arrested Wednesday afternoon after allegedly burglarizing an east Lancaster home. His capture led authorities to a second juvenile suspect, who was found hiding in his mother’s bedroom. Mom, Tamakia Carter, who is a convicted felon, was also arrested for having a 9mm handgun stashed in her bedroom. The handgun was stolen during a burglary several years ago, authorities said.
The following press report from the Lancaster Station explains it all:
On 5/30/12, a juvenile dressed in “Iron Man”, comic book super hero pajamas was arrested after committing a residential burglary in the 44700 block of 6th St East.
The juvenile was captured two blocks away after he ran from patrol deputies that spotted him running away from the house that was burglarized.
Items stolen from the home were recovered from the juvenile.
Patrol deputies assisted by members of the Lancaster Station Burglary Suppression Team, after interviewing the juvenile, identified a second juvenile involved in the burglary, and identified an apartment the second juvenile lived at in the 500 block of East Lancaster Blvd.
Patrol deputies and burglary suppression team deputies went to the location and subsequently located the second juvenile, who was 16 years old. This juvenile was connected to the crime based on interviews conducted, and placed under arrest for burglary. The 16-year-old juvenile is being held at Sylmar Juvenile Hall.
During the investigation at the 16-years-old’s home, it was discovered that his mother, Tamakia Carter, 35, was on felony probation for forgery. The mother, during the investigation, initially lied about her son being at the apartment, and he was found hiding in her bedroom.
During a search of Tamakia Carter’s apartment, due to her being on probation with search conditions, a 9mm handgun was found in her bedroom. Carter admitted possession of the weapon, and was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Further investigation revealed that the gun was stolen during a burglary several years ago. Carter faces additional charges of receiving stolen property. The investigation is ongoing regarding how Carter came into possession of the weapon, and other possible suspects involved in the theft of the weapon.
