Cops: Donna Williams Kills Husband Mark With Hammer, Calls 911 2 Weeks Later

    VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -
A Vancouver woman used a hammer to kill her husband two weeks ago, but didn't call 911 until Wednesday, according to court documents.

Clark County deputies responded to 12216 NE 76th St. in the Orchards area just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday after 51-year-old Donna Williams made the call.

They found the body of 55-year-old Mark Williams covered with bed sheets on a bed in the home. There were numerous red stains on the walls, and the bedding was stained with what appeared to be blood, police said in the court documents.

Mark Williams appeared to have been struck numerous times in the head with a blunt object, a sergeant said.
Donna Williams later admitted during an interview with detectives that she killed her husband by striking him in the head with a hammer multiple times, the court documents revealed.

Close friends said Donna Williams claimed she was abused by her husband in the past.

"She came over a few times, and she just acted like an abused person. She didn't want anyone to touch her or see her bruises," said close friend Barbara Bright.

Court documents echoed the statements of Williams' friends. In an interview with detectives, Donna Williams told them her husband of 30 years had become increasingly abusive toward her. On Mother's Day, she said, her husband had been using cocaine and punched her in the eye.

On the morning of May 14, the court documents said, Donna Williams woke up early and went to the garage to retrieve a hammer. She told detectives she returned to the bedroom and struck her sleeping husband in the head three to four times, according to the court documents.

She left the home and went to a convenience store, but when she returned, her husband was still alive, according to her statement to detectives. That's when she grabbed the hammer and struck her husband once more in the head, killing him, the court documents said.

"I just can't believe it. She is such a tiny woman," said close friend Amanda Bright. "It's shocking to me that she could do this. It doesn't seem like something she is capable of."

"She would come over crying lots saying, 'You just don't know, you just don't know what I have to put up with.' I just never thought it would come to this. I thought she would leave him first. I can't believe this has happened," Barbara Bright said.

Mark Williams' remains were taken to the Clark County Medical Examiner's Office to determine the exact time of the death and the official cause.

Is it wrong this is going through my head " if I had a hammer , I'd hammer in the morning , I'd hammer in the evening ..." ?

This makes me sad. While I can understand the fury of being abused, since I am a victim of domestic violence, it never occurred to me to kill my ex. I think the sweetest revenge was leaving him without someone as amazing as me, knowing he would never have someone as awesome come into his life again.

Oh, I totally fantasized about killing my ex. For a long time, him dying seemed like the only way he'd be totally out of my life. At night, when I laid in bed next to him, afraid to go to sleep, I'd think "just get up and get a knife. do it and it will all be over."

But, we had a water bed, and lived on the third floor. I didn't want to stab through the water bed pouchy thingy and flood the apartment below.

I should tell him the only thing that kept him alive was that stupid fucking bed.

What kills me is how she comes back home and knocks him in the head a second time when she realizes he aint dead. Has any abuse allegations been proven? Did she come around looking beat up? Or is she tryin to bullshit her way out of a felony murder charge...

A Vancouver woman accused of killing her husband with a hammer was found mentally competent to stand trial and pleaded not guilty Friday to a first-degree murder charge.

The case against Donna Rae Williams had been in limbo since June 12, when Williams' attorney, David Kurtz, requested a mental evaluation to determine whether she could assist in her own defense.

On Friday afternoon, Clark County Superior Court Judge Scott Collier, following Western State Hospital's review of the case, scheduled a trial date of Aug. 27.

Competency is different than insanity. Competency determines whether a defendant understands the charges and can assist in a defense, while insanity is a defense decided by a judge or a jury as to whether the defendant understood right from wrong at the time of the event.

In an interview with sheriff's investigators, Donna Williams said she bludgeoned her husband because he had punched her in the left eye the night before.

"Donna said that the following morning, she woke up early and looked in the mirror. When she did, she saw the injury to her eye and 'became frustrated,'" according to the probable cause affidavit filed in court.

She said she went to retrieve a hammer in the garage and struck her husband while he slept. Williams said she believed he was still alive after hitting him several times, according to court documents.

She said she then walked to a convenience store, and when she returned home, Williams said her husband was still breathing, so she struck him in the head again, according to documents.

She is being held in the Clark County Jail.

I'll admit the headline left me scratching my head. Dayum, waiting TWO WEEKS to call it in? Couldn't she be sure of the deed being complete sooner?

Damaged from years of physical abuse , and who knows what else, she probably couldn't think beyond right now, this minute. Battered women are too busy trying to keep the abuser content and nonviolent to be able to think about tomorrow morning, much less plan an escape.

She looks like the stereotype of a battered woman. At some point in extreme physical and psychological abuse, a woman really does believe that only death of the abuser will save her life. She may not be in danger the way we look at it, but in her mind, she is in imminent danger of her life. Not just think she is; she really, truly believes he is going to kill her any minute. She believes her life depends on what she does next. Run? he'll follow. Hide? He'll find you That's just my opinion. Violence in response to violence never settled anything, but I understand where she's coming from.

mugshots are always the worst pic of a person's life. God only knows what was going through her mind other than "well, life in prison seems better than life in hell, I guess"

bet they offer her a deal to plead guilty to manslaughter if she really was abused they can argue battered wife's syndrome, etc
