Drug Dealer Mistakenly Texts Police Officer
Dealer, Supplier Arrested On Drug Allegations, Criminal Conspiracy

SANTA MARIA, Calif. -- Police say a drug dealer mistakenly sent text messages to a California central coast police officer in an attempt to sell methamphetamines.

The Santa Maria officer notified Santa Barbara County sheriff's detectives about the errant text messages early Tuesday.
The officer and detectives then set up a meeting with the unknown drug dealer.
Sheriff's spokesman Drew Sugars says 39-year-old Reymundo Carlos Escobedo was arrested and about 2 grams of methamphetamine was seized.

A news release says 37-year-old John Martin Silvera, who is Escobedo's suspected methamphetamine supplier, then arrived at the location and he was arrested with about 7 grams of methamphetamine.
Escobedo and Silvera are in jail on drug allegations, including criminal conspiracy.

Errant Text Messages Land Suspected Drug Dealers in Jail

Two suspected methamphetamine dealers are in the Santa Barbara Jail today following a drug investigation prompted by their errant text messages.

At approximately 7:00 am on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Narcotics detectives received information that a member of the Santa Maria Police Department Narcotics suppression team had received several errant text messages from someone attempting to sell narcotics. The SMPD detective went along with the texts and set up a meeting with the unknown drug dealer to purchase approximately 2 grams of methamphetamine.

Once a location and price had been agreed upon, the SMPD detective notified members of the Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit who arrived at the location and contacted Reymundo Carlos Escobedo (DOB 11/13/72) who was awaiting the arrival of, what he believed, was a customer wanting to purchase narcotics. Detectives located approximately 2 grams of methamphetamine in Escobedo’s possession.

Detectives arrested Escobedo and Silvera both of Santa Maria and booked them into the Santa Barbara County Jail on $30,000 bail for possession of a controlled substance for sale (11378 H&S), transportation of a controlled substance (11379 H&S), and criminal conspiracy (182 PC). Madrigal was issued a citation for being under the influence of a controlled substance (11550 H&S) and released from Sheriff’s custody.
