STOCKTON, Calif. —
Stockton police on Thursday were searching for two people wanted in a horrifying attack on a little dog.
Police said they received a call on Wednesday from a witness who saw a man and a woman attach an M-80 firecracker to a male long-haired dachshund and detonate it.
Animal control officers were called in and the dog was rushed to an area pet hospital.
The suspects were described as an African-American male age 25-30 and an African-American female approximately 20 years of age.
The dog was treated for gashes and internal injuries to his neck and was still recovering thursday.
"He's making tremendous strides in how he's doing, said veterinary technician Maddy Fawn. He's wagging his tail. He's doing way better than expected for right now."

"This was a senseless act of violence against this dog, so we're asking the community for help," said Stockton Police detective Joseph Silva. "So if you saw anything, please call the Stockton Police Department."
Hospital staff members have nicknamed the dog "Rocket."
They say he could be well enough to be adopted next week
