UTICA —
A Utica woman was accused of stealing seized drugs off the trunk of a police car as her acquaintance was being taken into custody, Utica police said.
At about 11:45 a.m. Thursday, the NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force responded to a residence on First Street to serve a warrant for harassment.
When they arrived, they saw the suspect, Lawrence King, 24, of First Street, standing outside with a woman, police said.
King was taken into custody without incident, and while searching him, he admitted to being in possession of drugs and handed the officers a container that contained several packages of a white chunky substance, police said.
An investigator placed the drugs on the trunk of the car and continued searching the man. As King was being placed into the back seat of the car, the woman started to walk away and the drugs were missing from the trunk, police said.
The woman, Shelby Carlomusto, 19, of First Street, Utica, was then taken into custody, police said.
They were charged with felony and misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
Carlomusto also was charged with misdemeanor obstructing government administration, police said.
