This is me’: Accused thief leaves video of himself on stolen camera

La Crosse man recorded himself on a stolen camera taunting police. Now he’s in jail, and the videos are on YouTube.
“This is my house, yes, and a stolen camera that I stole,” he says. “But it’s OK, the cops won’t figure it out.”
He continues: “Oh yeah, to introduce you, my name is Houaka Yang, so yeah. How do you do?”

He left behind a trail of videos of himself on the camera he stole late May 11 from an unlocked car outside the home of Republican state Senate candidate Bill Feehan.

Chris Rochester is Feehan’s spokesman and the camera’s owner. He got his camera back last week but didn’t find the suspect’s home movies until after he filmed Gov. Scott Walker’s visit to La Crosse on Monday.
“I was surprised,” Rochester said. “It goes into Jay Leno’s stupid criminals.”

Rochester put one video on YouTube and titled it “Stupid criminal: Dude who stole my handycam records himself saying ‘hi.’”
Yang and his 13-year-old co-defendant, also of La Crosse, admitted breaking into Feehan’s car and several others after confronted with home surveillance video that captures the eight-minute crime, according to La Crosse police reports.

They turned over an array of stolen items, including the video camera. Both now face theft charges. Yang also faces a bail jumping charge because he was out on bond for stealing items from cars.

You have to wonder how Houaka Yang mustered the brain power to figure out how to operate the damn thing.

Yang, 20, stole a camera from an unlocked car outside the La Crosse home of Bill Feehan, a Republican state Senate candidate. He then shot a short video with the camera, introducing himself and confessing to the theft.

"This is my house, yes, and a stolen camera that I stole," Yang says during one brilliant particularly passage in the video. "But it's ok, the cops won't figure it out." Yes, it'll be especially hard for them given that you just went on camera and confessed!

The La Crosse Tribune reports that Yang has a history of stealing stuff from cars. On May 11, he and a 13-year-old accomplice broke into several vehicles, including one with the camera, during an eight-minute crime spree that was caught on a home surveillance video system. Authorities watched the tape, recognized Yang and arrested him, capturing the camera and a number of other stolen items in the process.

On Monday, Chris Rochester, Feehan's spokesman, was filming Gov. Scott Walker's visit to La Crosse with the stolen-and-returned camera when he finally noticed Yang's unbelievably stupid confession clip.

"I was surprised," Rochester told the Tribune. "It goes into Jay Leno's stupid criminals." He later uploaded the video for our collective viewing pleasure.

LE caught him by identifying him based on surveillance footage from the property he stole it from, likely in part because he was already out on bail for car theft and known to them. They apparently didn't check the camera before returning it to its owner, who discovered the videos recorded by the thief, and chose one where he bragged about the theft, named himself *and* showed his face to the camera, and uploaded it to Youtube.

Proof that some people are actually too ducking fumb to be decent criminal masterminds. Seriously now dude, why would you embarass yourself in such a ridiculously bosatful manner? Its like he was asking to be mercilessly ridicule by everyone including his peers in the jailhouse once his pathetic life of petty crime was cut to an end. Everyone all together now lets give this idiot a slow clap for his brilliance. Don't even get me started on the fact that his accomplice was 13y/o. Thats truly a stroke of true genius right there. Looks like someone will be going to bed without dinner on top of being grounded til he's 21.
