Police say a Magna man was kidnapped, beaten and tortured by a group of six people over the weekend.

According to Salt Lake County Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal, the victim was grabbed by his roommates late Saturday night, after one of them claimed the victim had been involved in mugging him and that the victim was also responsible for "ratting them out" to their enemies.

After kidnapping the victim, Hoyal said the group punched him, stapled his lips shut, tortured him with a power tool and shot staples down his chest.

Hoyal said the roommates interrogated and beat the victim for several hours before letting him go after they realized that he did not betray them.

According to Hoyal, the victim left the house on 2931 South 8950 West and went to his sister's home, where he called 911. When officers responded, the victim still had staples in him.

Investigators responded and eventually arrested 43-year-old Paula Masters, 55-year-old David Masters, 30-year-old Jennifer Moses, 26-year-old Lee Moses, 40-year-old Tracey Jordan and 20-year-old Brandon Haggard.

Thomas Chapman, 41, had his lips stapled together, his ears stapled, staples put all over his chest, was cut from head to toe with a knife and a Dremel cutting tool, and was struck multiple times with blunt force objects including a crutch, keyboard, laptop and the butt-end of a shotgun slammed into his head, Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said.

"The victim said one of the residents pointed a rifle at him the entire time," according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.

"One of suspects claims over the last several weeks different people have pulled a gun on him in the street," Hoyal said. "They believe (Chapman) was responsible for it."

Over the weekend, the six people took their seventh housemate at gunpoint, handcuffed him, bound his feet with tape and tortured him in the basement.

"All night they tortured him," Hoyal said.

Chapman was told to leave the house wearing only a pair of underwear, the report states. He went to a nearby relative's home and called police. When officers arrived, the handcuffs were still attached to one wrist, Hoyal said. Chapman was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He was reportedly released Tuesday.

Chapman told police he had moved into the house just a week and a half ago. He agreed to remodel the basement in exchange for rent, the report states.

"It is strange, it's ridiculous, you know what I mean? And there are six of them and one of him, so what is he supposed to do?" Jimmy Hernandez, a friend of Chapman, said Tuesday.

Police served a search warrant on the house and arrested six people for investigation of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault and obstruction of justice with domestic violence and gang enhancements because more than three people were involved, although the group are not believed to be gang members.

In the basement, they found a bucket of cleaning solution with some of the tools used in the torture, the report states.

...am I allowed to laugh my ass off, because the one named Haggard is the least haggard out of the bunch? Also, I wonder if their motivation for torture was methtastic?

Details of Chapman's ordeal are very graphic.

Beaten, interrogated and tortured. Thomas Chapman is still trying to understand why his roommates attacked him.

"I'm like, 'Wow!' You guys are wrong here. Why are you doing this to me? This is totally wrong," said Thomas Chapman, Magna resident.
Chapman told ABC 4 the whole situation was one huge misunderstanding. He said his six roommates thought he was responsible for getting someone to pull a gun on one of them outside their Magna home on 8950 West.

Saturday, to get Chapman to confess, they took him downstairs, handcuffed him, and began torturing him.

"The next thing I know I'm getting drilled with Dremels, beat with keyboards, and whatever else was in the room." said Chapman.
Chapman said his roommates used a power drill to drill holes into his chest and a line down his back. Additionally, he said they cut him up with a knife, beat his face, broke his jaw, stapled his ears to his head and stapled his lips shut.

"They could have easily killed me, they had more knives and guns than was needed," Chapman said of the attack.
After six hours of torture, his attackers were finally convinced Chapman was innocent, and let him go.

Neighbors couldn't believe it.
"That's frightening," said neighbor Aubrey Jeppson.
"I think it's pretty sick," added neighbor Craig Brundage.

"That's just plain awful," said neighbor Jennifer Woods.

Worse yet, the police said they've never seen anything like it.
"You don't often hear very often where people are literally tortured for hours, " said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.
Many may think Chapman would be looking for revenge, but he told ABC 4 he is asking police and other give his roommates mercy.

"They made bad choices, they need help," said Chapman. "What they did was inhuman, but I can honestly say they're good people, just with problems in their head."
Police arrested 43-year-old Paula Masters, 55-year-old David Masters, 30-year-old Jennifer Moses, 26-year-old Lee Moses, 40-year-old Tracey Jordan and 20-year-old Brandon Haggard.
The suspects face Aggravated Kidnapping and Aggravated Assault for their involvement in the incident. Hoyal said prosecutors were also screening the case for possible added gang-related charges, which would enhance the penalties for the group.
There is a possibility the roommates could serve life in prison.
