LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (AP) - Authorities in Los Alamos say a man has been accused of child abuse involving his 11-week-old son.
Tyrell Abney remains in the Los Alamos Detention Center on a $100,000 cash-only bond.

The Los Alamos Monitor says the child's mother left the baby in the care of the 19-year-old Abney, who is her fiance.
Abney was supposed to drop their baby son at their apartment, but police say he took the infant to the Los Alamos Medical Center.

Police were called in after doctors reportedly noticed bruises on the child's head and face.
They say Abney admitted to dropping the baby and hitting him with an open hand because he was frustrated with the child's screaming.

LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (KRQE) - The mother of an 11-week-old baby, who police say was beaten , is defending the baby's father, even though police have charged him with child abuse.

The child's mom called KRQE News 13 saying police got it all wrong.

Nicole Allison says she knows her boyfriend would not have hurt the baby on purpose.

“He said that he had dropped him and he didn't know what was wrong with him…that he didn't know what to do and I said call 911. He was like oh yeah. Like he was just so in a state of shock,” Allison said.

Allison claims her boyfriend was probably coerced into saying he hit the child.

Doctors have said the baby's injuries are not consistent with a fall.
