An 89-year-old man who may have Alzheimer's was charged in the Tuesday night murder of a friend, police said.

Police found 53-year-old Lionel Phillips wounded in the home on Hines Ave. around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. He died at the hospital.

According to his girlfriend, she and Phillips were in a bedroom when John Boyd walked in and started firing. The shooting occurred at Boyd's home in the South Norfolk neighborhood.

"They've been friends for years, you know, and they were just trying to deal with him, you know or whatever," she said.

Boyd is charged with first degree murder and use of a firearm.
