Police: Mom arrested after baby nearly drowns

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The mother of a 7-month old baby was arrested Friday after authorities said the baby nearly drowned in a bathtub.

The initial call came in at 12:39 p.m. from the 900 block of Silverman Way, near MLK and Owens. The fire department responded to the call and found a baby that had nearly drowned. Responders called for police.

Police arrived on scene and arrested the mother, 28-year-old Lori Lee Martinez, for felony child neglect. She was transported to Clark County Detention Center.

The baby was taken to University Medical Center pediatrics. Police said the baby was conscious and breathing at the time of transport.

Authorities say this is just another example of how important it is to constantly supervise children, especially babies, around water.

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The arrest report for the mom accused of leaving a 7-month-old baby in a bathtub alone last week has been released.

28-year-old Lori Lee Martinez was arrested for felony child neglect after athorities said her baby nearly drowned

Martinez told police she decided to get a drink downstairs and left the child in the bathtub with the water running into an open drain.

Martinez also decided to use the restroom while getting a drink.

When she returned, she told police she found the baby not breathing and floating in a half-full bathtub. Martinez described the infant as "lifeless and unresponsive."

Martinez told police officers "I was only gone five minutes."

OMG how many times has someone said, but I was only gone a couple minutes! When you are busy doing something sometimes 30 minutes can feel like two. Why are people still leaving babies in bathtubs alone? That rule has been around for hundreds of years and people still don't get it? SMH....

i actually posted that last comment before i read the story why in the fuck would you leave a 7 MONTH OLD child in a bath with the water running and go to get a drink or anything atall that is one of the most stupid things i have read in a while WTF !!
