The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m., at 135 Clinton Avenue.

Shirley told police that she had gone home around 3:50 a.m. Ariel arrived home about an hour later and attacked her as she lay in bed. She said he pushed her and she hit her head on a door. She then went to the kitchen, saw and knife and used it to cut him.
Ariel told police that they couple had filed for divorce after eight months of marriage. He said he arrived home to an argumentative wife and that when he told her to get out she began attacking him, pushing him and scratching his face. Ariel said his wife then grabbed a knife, at which point he said, "what are you going to do, stab me, go ahead and stab me." Then she did.
