Texting while WALKING ban????

I can understand the ban on driving and texting because you may hurt someone because you aren't paying attention behind the wheel. A ban on texting while walking though? Who are you going to hurt but yourself if you stupidly trip over a curb, walk into a pole, or maybe just maybe break something if you are in such a big rush to get that text out that you fall into a ditch. Does anyone agree with this ban?

To me it seems either a) the government is so broke they are trying to make any new laws they can to get more fines out of us or b) they simply just want to keep eroding more and more of our so called freedoms with more laws, laws they say they pass to make us safer...yeah ok.

Watched the video at the link--it was all about the woman who fell in the fountain at the mall. Personally, I think it's silly for her to be so sensitive about the viral aspect. I, at least, couldn't make out her face and would not have known who it was. Maybe those who know her might have recognized her . . .

As to texting while walking, it's a pity when we have to legislate common sense and politeness. Walking without seeing where you're going, unless you know how to work a cane, is impolite. You're expecting everyone else to move out of your way, risking knocking over things and other people who are facing the other way. And it's other people's fault for not doing more to stop you?!!! Huh?

It's well established you can't text and drive, and it doesn't need to be explained.

But whatever happened to that old standby TALKING? We went to a lot of trouble to move communication over distances from writing/smoke signals/telegraph to just talking so we could hear each other's voices and the illiterate among us could more easily communicate. So why, now we can make a cell phone the size of a thumb, are we making cell phones larger so they can accommodate a screen and a keyboard--to text each other? Stick the stupid earbud in you earhole and talk FGS! Then you can practice talking, walking, and avoiding things (e.g., engaging your eyes and brain), including humiliation.

Whoever finds it necessary for the government to pass a “ban for walking and texting” should also get ready to hand over all the rights they enjoy right now. If injuries, accidents, and or death is being caused by people that walk and text, the answer is not to ban such activity, this answer is to pay fucking attention where you are walking.

Idiot people are putting all of us in jeopardy of loosing our rights to simply walk and text, if not more. We start with texting and walking and where will it end? Will it be illegal for me to walk and chew gum because some asshole blew a bubble too big and didn’t see incoming traffic and got smeared across the pavement? Why should I give up my rights because the dude next to me is a meat head??? How is that my fault?

Personally, I believe laws prohibiting texting while walking are a terrible mistake! Especially in a place like New Jersey where the right to text while walking is desperately needed! Now the people of Fort Lee, NJ will have to actually be a little more creative when making their bids to win Darwin Awards!

We start with texting and walking and where will it end?

I see a future of lanes marked out on the pavements (sidewalks to you lot), and pedestrians having to wear a belt with indicators and break lights on them. Then if you fail to indicate before turning into the shop or whatever, and cause a collision, you will be fined and possibly banned from walking. Of course, to make this really effective, people will have to have licences and insurance before they can walk on the pavewalks (see what I did there?) People will have an ID number tattooed on their heads so they can be identified and found if they leave the site of a collision.


And it all started by equating the dangers of texting while walking with texting while driving.

I don't want the government all up in my business but I would like people to take notice of their surroundings. I use my cell & text often, but people are no longer aware. Aware of themselves as well. I don't know. I get annoyed when a mom & baby are shopping & mom is texting instead of talking to her baby. Technology has allowed us to become LESS aware as humans.
