Car Found But Mom Charlotte Schilling and Son Still Missing *found deceased*

There's hardly anything to be found in the news here about this, but what little details there are are pretty odd. You'd think there'd be more area gossip about this because Plattsmouth is a small community, but people are kinda meh about it. I hope they're ok... and I hope I did this right.

A Plattsmouth family was not celebrating Mother's Day on Sunday. Instead they were searching for a mother and son and hoping to hear from them soon.

Channel 6 News spoke with the Schilling family about the mystery surrounding the disappearance of 11-year-old Owen and his mother, Charlotte. The pair have been missing since Thursday and their family is worried.

Lindsay Schilling says, "I'm trying to tell us and myself that it is just a vacation for them. They just wanted to get away and not be found."

Lindsay and Tyler Schilling agreed to talk with us about their missing mother and brother.

Charlotte took Owen out of his Wake Robin Elementary classroom between noon and 2pm on Thursday. Her car was found later at Lake Manawa. The contents of her purse were dumped out but the cash was left behind, the purse itself was gone.

The search for Charlotte and Owen will start in the Lake Manawa parking lot where authorities found their car. Police from Plattsmouth will be joined by officers from Council Bluffs and deputies from Pottawattamie County. If the situation warrants it the FBI could be called in the help search for the Schillings.

There are thickets to be searched and the lot where the car was found is near both Lake Manawa and the Missouri River.

For now the Schillings hope mom just needed a little getaway and will return with Owen when she is ready but the missing parts of the family are missed even more today.

Tyler Schilling says, "Especially on Mother's Day. We had a lot planned. She is the center of attention today so it's kind of hard on the whole family."

Charlotte and Owen have been missing three days now, officials hope someone knows were they are and calls the location in.

Anyone with information about Charlotte or Owen Schilling is encouraged to call Plattsmouth police at 402-296-3311.

Hmmmm. Doesn't sound like the family is worried that they were abducted. I wonder if mom has some type of history or diagnosis that makes them think her disappearing for awhile is likely, or maybe she's done it before but not for such a long time. I know one thing, if I choose to disappear for a couple of days, I am not taking my kids with me.

Inkling again, but think Mum tried to take the boy away because he was at risk from another Family member, possibly didn't make the cleanest getaway, but maybe she panicked? Hope they are safe anyway.

Video surveillance has revealed two sightings in the missing persons case of 41-year-old Charlotte Schilling and her 10-year-old son Owen, Plattsmouth Police Chief Steve Rathman said at a press conference Monday afternoon.

The sightings, which occurred on Thursday, were at a Kohl's department store in Council Bluffs, where children's clothing was purchased, and at a convenience store near Lake Manawa. Authorities found Charlotte Schilling's car abandoned at Lake Manawa on Friday evening.

Rathman said authorities are erring on the side of caution in relation to the disappearance of Schilling and her son and are currently treating the case as a kidnapping.

Family say Charlotte may be struggling with depression and that she has been dealing with a lot of emotional issues lately. Still, they don't believe she would just leave and take Owen with her.

Police are not able to comment on Charlotte's mental health because of HIPPA laws.

Police don't know why Charlotte may have left; however, they say they don't care. They says they are focusing on getting both Charlotte and her son home safetly.

If and when the two return home, Charlotte will most likely not be charged.

You rock, DV. That makes it sound a little more like she wigged out and bugged out with the kid. And if she's buying clothes for him, hopefully not likely to do too crazy.

Charlotte Schilling, Owen Schilling Bodies Found In Iowa State Park
OMAHA, Neb. — Police, neighbors and friends struggled Tuesday to unravel the mysterious deaths of a Nebraska woman and her 10-year-old son that began with them appearing to go on an excursion and ended with their bodies found deep in the woods of an Iowa state park.
    [...]
But the woman always called home and the excursions never lasted long. Her family grew worried when neither she nor Owen returned home, and Schilling's cellphone went unanswered.

"None of this makes sense," said Polly Best, who lives next door to the Schillings. "It's just tragic. There was never a hint of anything wrong there."

Best stood outside the family's home Tuesday holding a roast she had cooked for relatives gathered inside. Yellow police tape blocked the Schillings' driveway and front steps from reporters trying to talk to family members and neighbors wanting to offer condolences.

Surveillance video from a convenience store in the area where the woman and boy's bodies were found Sunday showed Owen hugging his mom and Schilling kissing her son on the head. KETV in Omaha aired the store video footage.

"I just can't believe it," Best said. "That did not look to me like a woman who would hurt her child."

But that appears to be what investigators believe may have happened.

Police in Council Bluffs, Iowa, said Tuesday they "do not suspect any outside foul play" in the deaths of Schilling and her son. Their bodies were found Sunday evening in Lake Manawa State Park, south of Council Bluffs in western Iowa, about 20 miles north of Plattsmouth.

Investigators stopped short of labeling the case a murder-suicide, saying they must wait for further autopsy results before determining the cause of death.

Council Bluffs Sgt. Dave Dawson said he expected to announce the cause of death by the end of the week. Investigators are leaning toward the belief that the bodies had been in the spot where they were found since May 10, the day that Schilling checked Owen out of Wade Robin Elementary School in Bellevue, Neb., and they went missing.
    [...]
Nine days after the discovery of the vehicle, a passer-by found the woman and boy's bodies in thick woods about a half-mile from where the car had been parked. Authorities had to rely on autopsy results to confirm the identities because the bodies had decomposed.

"I just about went to my knees," said the family's neighbor, Naomi Raposo, 50, describing her reaction to news of the deaths. She just found out Tuesday, not realizing that earlier reports of bodies being found were about Schilling and her son.

"They've been very peaceful neighbors. They're very friendly," Raposo said.

The night before the woman and boy went missing, another neighbor, Athena Meneses, said she spoke to Schilling at a local Cub Scout meeting, where Meneses had taken her own son and Owen. Owen had wanted to join the group, Meneses said.

I don't think Momma did it, something just doesn't ring true. She was pretty and the Kid was of an age to struggle, also an age most future step-dads might find cool and fun. Think we're missing something here guys .
