Estrella Carrera, married on Friday, dead in tub on Sunday, still wearing gown

A newlywed still wearing her wedding dress was found dead in a bathtub at a home just outside Chicago, police said Monday.

Estrella Carrera, 26, suffered multiple stab wounds and was found in a dry tub Sunday afternoon at a home in Burbank, Ill., about 16 miles southwest of Chicago, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Carrera, who was married late Friday, was last seen alive around 2:00 a.m. local time Saturday, sources told the newspaper.

Her body was found after Carrera's sister became worried that she could not contact her and alerted the police.

Her death is being investigated by the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force. No further details of the circumstances surrounding the incident were given.

An autopsy was scheduled for later Monday to determine the cause of death, the report added.

Her kids were with her father. The hubby is missing.

They started getting worried the next day when the 26-year-old Carrera failed to pick up the child, a 2-year-old boy, and her 9-year-old daughter. On Sunday, a sister called police.

Carrera had gotten married to the father of her son Friday but told few people, according to another cousin, Sandy Lopez.

Carrera called Sandy Lopez on Friday, sounding happy and inviting her to a party. But she said nothing about a wedding. "She didn't want to tell me she had gotten married," said Sandy Lopez, who did not attend the party. "She didn't tell anybody."

Carrera and the man had had an on-and-off relationship for about three years, according to Sandy Lopez. The Tribune is not naming him because he has not been charged with a crime

Sandy Lopez said she did not approve of the relationship or the marriage, but she could not speak for others in the family.

"He's just a person who had problems," Sandy Lopez said without elaborating. "She was a beautiful mother, person, sister."

Carrera had left her children with her father, but she failed to check in or pick them up. Relatives went to her home and knocked on the door but got no answer on Saturday, Jaime Lopez said. Two cars that belonged to her were not parked outside.

Hope the hubby is found soon. I wonder why he took both cars? So many questions!

She has a Facebook but it's private.
Police are calling it an isolated incident stemming from a domestic situation, but did not say whether anyone was in custody as of Monday afternoon.

Carrera had applied for a wedding license on May 2, authorities said. The 30-year-old man she filed to marry was not at his Southwest Side home Monday afternoon.
    [...]

The Cook County Clerk does not yet have a marriage certificate on file, according to spokeswoman Gail Siegel. Whoever presided over Carrera’s wedding ceremony has to sign it then submit it to the clerk, Siegel said.

Burbank police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are investigating Carrera’s death.

Neighbors told NBC5 they had no clue that Carrera planned on getting married or was even seeing someone.

“I seen her walking to her car, her and her son. She never had problems with anybody. ‘Hi’ and ‘bye’ and that was it,” neighbor Jason Tokarczyk told the station. “I never ever seen her with a guy since I have been here, and I never seen her walking in and out with a guy at all.”

Tokarczyk said Carerra was quiet and had only lived in the complex for a few months.

This is one of the most fucked up story short of any child murder story.
I mean, why get married? Then why wait till after the ceremony?

A manhunt is now under way for the 6-foot, 220-pound Jiminez, who was last known to be driving a 2006 black Maserati. Burbank police said they have no record of employment for Jiminez, and have no idea how he got a $120,000 car.

"It definitely raises questions," said Capt. Joe Ford. "We can't find any employment (record). It's a very expensive car, and he has no record of income."

Ford said that it's likely Jiminez has ditched the car in an effort to escape police, but authorities are still interested in locating the vehicle.

He probably thought so. Doesn't make it so though. Maybe he thought it would hurt her family more to know it was her husband that did it, not just a boyfriend. Who knows what crazy really thinks.

It's likely that he was getting paid under the table. It's a pretty common practice, especially when one is working in a trade that isn't legal.

The marrying her before killing her baffles me, too. Did she have some sort of life insurance policy that pays out to the surviving spouse by default? Was he hoping to collect survivor's benefits from social security for her children? Did he realize that by alienating her family and treating her like crap, he was the number one suspect in her murder whether he did it or not? (I'm 99% certain it was him, but there's got to be 1% for doubt, just in case a one-armed, bushy-haired man offed her while her new husband was off saving the rain forests or building houses for widows and orphans or something.)

CBS/AP) CHICAGO - The sister of a bride found stabbed to death in her reception dress says the now-missing groom called a relative and said he left her bleeding after a "bad fight."

Jazmin Carrera tells The Associated Press that a sister of Arnoldo Jimenez, 30, told the victim's family about the phone call Sunday.

Jimenez was reportedly crying and nervous, hung up on his sister and wouldn't pick up when she called him back.

Jazmin Carrera says Jimenez had hit and bruised her sister in the past.

Most of the bride’s family disapproved of her relationship with Jimenez, who is the father of one of Carrera’s children, a 2-year-old boy, Jazmin Carrera said. Jimenez had hit and bruised Estrella in the past, Jazmin Carrera said.

She described Jimenez as “very possessive” and jealous and said she doesn’t understand why her sister married him Friday at Chicago’s City Hall. The wedding plans seemed rushed.

Jazmin Carrera missed the celebration at a restaurant and nightclub after the ceremony — she’d been invited via a last-minute text message from the bride.

“It was just all of a sudden,” Jazmin Carrera said. “She didn’t give us enough notice.”
    [...]

Jimenez has been in trouble with the law before, but in the past eight years, only for traffic violations, records show.

In November 2003, however, he was arrested for deceptive practice, served six months of supervision and had to pay $3,915 in restitution, court records show. Later that month, he was arrested and charged with domestic battery and battery, but the charges were dropped when the victim — who police said was not Carrera — didn’t show up in court, according to court records.

Jimenez has had numerous driving violations over the past five years, according to records from the Secretary of State’s office. His driver’s license was suspended in 2007, 2008 and twice in 2009, and again from 2010 through 2011 after he failed to carry high-risk insurance.
    [...]

“We do not believe Jimenez is a danger to others, but we certainly do not know his mind frame at the present time,” Ford said.
    http://www.suntimes.com/news/1257779...hone-call.html

Burbank Police have asked the FBI for help in finding the 30-year-old groom accused of murdering his bride over the weekend, and leaving her body in a bathtub, still wearing the dress from her wedding party.
    [...]

Usually, the FBI gets involved to help find someone who is believed to have fled the area – and conducts a national or international manhunt, Hyde said.

Burbank Police said they have received more than 100 tips on Jimenez’s whereabouts – most about sightings his black Maserati – from all over the country, but mostly from the Chicago area.
    [...]

There is concern Jimenez might have fled to Mexico.

“Well, he’s had a head start. He does have family in the area. He does have kids in the area. That always keeps you tied to the area. Could he have left? Sure,” Ford said. “We’re taking precautions to prevent (him) leaving the country, but our contiguous borders – Canada and Mexico – it’s pretty easy to get out of the country.”

Officials said Jimenez does have family in Mexico.

FBI: Husband in bride's stabbing death was heading to Mexico
(CNN) -- The 30-year-old suburban Chicago husband being sought in the stabbing death of his new bride told an associate he was heading to Mexico, where his parents live, according to an FBI affidavit released Friday.

Charged with first-degree murder, Arnoldo Jimenez of Burbank, Illinois, was tracked using his phone in southern Illinois near Memphis, Tennessee, through Arkansas to Houston and then to Hidalgo, Texas, near the Mexican border at 10:45 p.m. Sunday, the same day police found his new bride murdered in her home, the affidavit said.

On Sunday, Jimenez told his sister by phone that he and Estrella Carrera, 26, "had a bad fight, and he left her bleeding," FBI Special Agent R. Brian Wentz said in an affidavit.

Jimenez also told "a close associate" that he was leaving Illinois and "if questioned by law enforcement, the associate should tell law enforcement he went to Mexico," Wentz said in the affidavit, filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago.
Longtime friend of murdered bride speaks
The Cook County State's Attorney's Office will extradite Jimenez upon his arrest, the FBI said.

The FBI has joined the search for Jimenez, now the subject of an international manhunt, and a federal warrant charging Jimenez with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution was issued Friday in U.S. District in Chicago, said FBI Special Agent Ross Rice.

Jimenez, born in Texas, still owns property in Pharr, Texas, and also has relatives in North Carolina, the FBI affidavit said.
    [...]
There were no signs of forced entry at her home, police said.

"It is important to know that this appears to be an isolated incident stemming from a domestic situation and the investigation is continuing," police said this week.

Lopez told WBBM she had "no idea why somebody would do this to her."

The 6-foot, 225-pound Jimenez was last seen driving a black 2006 Maserati.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation hopes a $10,000 reward will help them catch the man they think killed his new wife.
    [...]

Jimenez reportedly told a friend he was leaving Illinois and that the friend should tell police that he'd fled to Mexico. Authorities have concentrated their search in that country, specifically near Santiago Papasquiaro, a town of 48,000 people, according to Burbank police.

Authorities said they've received more than 450 tips in the case, including sightings of his Maserati, with Illinois license plate L641441.

"We are still actively searching for the 2006 Maserati, but we don't believe Jimenez is currently using it for transportation," said Burbank police Capt. Joe Ford.

Break in case of bride slain on wedding night

There is a break in the case of a southwest suburban bride murdered hours after her wedding. Police have the car they believe was used in the killing.

The 2006 black Maserati was recovered during an unrelated federal drug investigation targeting the brother of the groom. It's at the Burbank police department, being processed by evidence techs from the Illinois State Police
Police have been looking for the Maserati since May, when Estrella Carrera was found stabbed to death in her Burbank bathtub, [...]
The Maserati was found in his brother's garage, when an FBI SWAT team kicked in the door. Police say the car wasn't there during their prior visits to the home, and while it may have been moved around to keep it away from investigators, documents filed in federal court suggest only a cursory effort was made to clean it up. There's a significant amount of blood inside.

It's a major break for police as they build their case against the runaway groom. Jimenez is believed to have fled to Mexico.
