Supsected Drunk Driver Crashes Into His Own House

A man crashed into a home near Fair Hill earlier this week - - simultaneously making him a drunken driving suspect and a property damage victim, police reported.

“He hit his own house after driving through his neighbor’s yard and then his own yard,”
said Lt. Michael Holmes, a spokesman for the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office.

No one was injured in the incident that occurred about 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday in the 100 block of Tallyho Court in Hunter’s Crossing, an upscale neighborhood off Route 273, north of Elkton, police said.

While causing minor damage to an exterior wall of the house, the off-road accident resulted in greater damage to the Toyota Scion driven by the suspect, Roland Kenneth Dunaway, 59, police added.

Dunaway is charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol and related traffic offenses, according to Holmes.

Shortly after the accident, a test revealed that Dunaway’s blood-alcohol content was .21, almost three times higher than the legal limit of .08, Holmes noted.

Dfc. Bryan Shockey went to Dunaway’s home after a pedestrian called 911 to report a single-vehicle accident, police said.

“The man said he was nearly run over by a white Toyota while jogging in the neighborhood. Then he saw the Toyota drive into the yards and strike a residence,” Holmes said. “He tried to help the driver out of the vehicle, and he seemed to be intoxicated.”

Dunaway was released on personal recognizance after the deputy filed charges against him.

That was my first thought! I've woken up fairly drunk before, but never THAT drunk. He's either one hell of a late night partier, or one hell of a morning person.

I wonder how this works for insurance.
