Bank robbery in Ga. linked to Pasco Co. sibling fugitives

Pasco authorities seek 3 suspects in shooting

    ZEPHYRHILLS --
The search for two men and a woman believed to be involved in shooting at a Zephyrhills police officer continued Wednesday.

The officer was shot at during a traffic stop Tuesday morning. He was not injured.

Authorities said Wednesday the suspects are: Ryan Dougherty, 21, Dylan Stanley, 26, and Lee Grace Dougherty, 29.

Investigators find more than 20 bullet casings
According to authorities, Zephyrhills police were in pursuit of a vehicle, possibly a 4-door Mitsubishi Mirage, when multiple shots were fired at a patrol car just after 7 a.m. One of the patrol car's tires was hit with a shot.

Investigators said they later found more than 20 casings for bullets of multiple calibers at the scene of the shooting.

The Zephyrhills officer continued in pursuit and the vehicle was disabled around Morris Bridge Road and State Road 54. Officials said the two men got out of the car and ran from the scene.

Pasco deputies weren't involved in the pursuit but are assisting Zephyrhills Police Department in the investigation.

Zephryhills police are handling the aggravated fleeing to elude and the sheriff's office is investigating the attempted homicide of a police officer.

No injuries were reported. The name of the officer shot at hasn't been released yet. He's only being described as a 6-year veteran of the Zephyrhills Police Department.

People who live nearby said it was a frightening way to wake up.

"I woke up and all I heard was a bunch gunfire and I thought somebody was shooting at my house and I immediately went to check on my babies," said Natalie Talbot.

"It sounded like a semi-automatic," Rodger Lupi said.

    Sheriff identifies suspects
Hours later, at a joint news conference held by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office and Zephyrhills Police, Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco urged the suspects to turn themselves in.

"We have to let these criminals know this won't be tolerated in Pasco County,'' Nocco said.

Nocco said they were were able to identify the suspects, who are siblings, because Ryan Dougherty had cut off a GPA tracking monitor he was wearing as part of his probation.

Dougherty had been convicted of lewd and lascivious behavior with a child under the age of 16 in Volusia County.

Nocco said Dougherty removed the bracelet shortly before shots were fired.

"Mr. Dougherty is a violent sexual offender," he said. "He's been charged with over 30 felonies throughout his lifetime."

The other two suspects also have criminal histories.

Lee Grace Dougherty was arrested in Pasco County for a hit-and-run earlier this year, and she has also faced charges of aggravated battery.

Dylan Dougherty has been arrested for marijuana possession.

All three suspects have been living in Lacoochee for the past three years.

Citizens are asked to contact the Pasco County Sheriff's Office at 727-844-7711 if they have any information about this crime. Nocco said the suspects should be considered armed and dangerous.

"Somebody knows something out there, they're gonna talk and we want them to come in," Nocco said. "Because we're going to bring them to justice one way or another. Either they come in peacefully or we're going to send our SWAT team to go get them."

Officials say the three entered a Certus Bank wearing black masks and told everyone to get down before firing several shots into the ceiling. One of the three had what officials say appeared to be an AK-47 while another one had a pistol according to the FBI.

YES!!! I get to be the first one who says the cliche: "the family that does the crime together does the time together."

Unfortunately I have nothing original to add.

Man, it makes you wonder what they were learning when other kids were learning to crawl or walk or whatever.

Not to be a PIA or stickler, but this article says GA, but Pasco County, Volusia County and Zephyrhills (sp?) are all in Florida. Unless Georgia has counties and cities with the same names, this was in Florida, I think.

Either way, that's a trip. A family losing three kids at once to crime and a sentence in prison most likely.

The bank robbery was in GA. The family is from Fl and tried to shoot the officer in FL. (according to the article)

FBI hunts for 3 siblings sought in bank robbery, cop shoot-out
CNN) -- Authorities are using digital billboards across the Southeast in their manhunt for three siblings, all in their 20s, who are wanted for an alleged armed bank robbery in Georgia and are suspects in the attempted murder of a Florida police officer, the FBI said Saturday. The crimes occurred Tuesday.

"I'm not going to compare them to Bonnie and Clyde -- I'll let you do that if you like -- but they are certainly very clear in demonstrating their threat to both law enforcement and the public," FBI special agent Stephen Emmett told CNN Saturday.

"It's not very often that we have advance warning like this of potential problems with law enforcement encountering individuals. They made it very clear that they are going to be a problem," added Emmett, a spokesman for the FBI's Atlanta office.

Hundreds of digital billboards from Florida to Kentucky to Texas are posting the photographs of the three siblings and their white, four-door, 2006 Subaru Impreza with the New York license tag "FBE 5900," Emmett said.

The three being sought in the dragnet are Ryan Edward Dougherty, 21, sister Lee Grace E. Dougherty, 29, and half-brother Dylan Dougherty Stanley, 26, authorities said.

Authorities are calling them "the Dougherty family."

The siblings are considered armed and dangerous because an AK-47 type assault rifle and an apparent machine pistol were used in a Valdosta, Georgia, bank robbery Tuesday, the FBI said. A U.S. magistrate issued warrants for the arrest of the three siblings in connection to the robbery, the FBI said.

Also, the three siblings are suspects in the attempted murder Tuesday of a Zephyrhills, Florida, police officer that allegedly occurred 200 miles from and five hours before the Georgia bank robbery, the FBI said.

The officer wasn't injured, though occupants in a vehicle fired numerous rounds during a chase reaching up to 100 miles per hour, according to the Pasco County, Florida, Sheriff's office. One round went into the police vehicle's tire, disabling the automobile, the sheriff's office said.

The last public sighting of the three siblings was Tuesday, the day of the crimes, said Doug Tobin, spokesman for the Pasco County Sheriff's office.

"We're concentrating on the Southeast and East corridor because that's where they have family right now, but they could be anywhere," Tobin said Saturday.

Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco has urged the siblings to turn themselves in. Among the states that will carry the police messages on digital billboards are Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and New York, the sheriff's office said.

"Although we continue to seek a peaceful resolution, the actions of the Dougherty family prove this will end otherwise," Nocco said in a statement. "I ask that everyone pray for the law enforcement officers who will eventually engage these suspects, for they will have to do everything possible to ensure that the Doughertys' violent rampage comes to an end."

The two brothers have been living in the same rented residence the past three years in Lacoochee, Florida, which is located in Pasco County, the sheriff's office said. Their sister, who had been living with her boyfriend in Orlando, just began staying with her brothers, the sheriff's office said.

The three siblings have criminal records, the sheriff's office said.

With the most extensive record of the three, Ryan Edward Dougherty has had 14 felony arrests since 2007, including for alleged burglary, destroying evidence and probation violation, according to the sheriff's office.

His live-in girlfriend owned the vehicle that he and his two siblings are believed to be driving, the sheriff's office said. After the girlfriend filed a complaint about her missing car, an arrest warrant for grand theft auto was issued Friday for Ryan Dougherty, the sheriff's office said.

Authorities provided a timeline for events surrounding the three siblings: On Monday, Ryan Dougherty was sentenced in Volusia County, Florida, to 10 years' probation and two years of community control monitoring for convictions on two counts of sending harmful information to a minor, the sheriff's office said.

After the Monday sentencing, he sent his mother a text message: "There's a time for all of us to die," according to the sheriff's office.

On Tuesday, at 6:30 a.m., a witness saw all three siblings leave in the white four-door vehicle from their Lacoochee home. At 6:59 a.m., Ryan Dougherty cut off his GPS monitoring ankle bracelet near Zephyrhills, the sheriff's office said.

At 7:12 a.m. Tuesday, the shooting with the Florida police officer occurred, in which 20 high-caliber casings were found at the scene, the sheriff's office said. The five-mile pursuit began after the officer tried to pull the vehicle over for speeding on State Road 54 in Zephyrhills, located 30 miles northeast of Tampa, Tobin said.

Then came the armed bank robbery at a CertusBank in Valdosta, Georgia, at 12:24 p.m. the same day, the FBI said.

During that robbery, three individuals dressed in black with masks entered the bank's front entrance, the FBI said. Shots were fired at the ceiling, and everyone was told to get down, the bureau said. At least two of the robbers were armed, and the third obtained an undisclosed amount of cash, the FBI said.

Lee Grace E. Dougherty's criminal background includes five felony charges. Three of them are pending, all of them hit-and-run offenses in Cocoa Beach, Florida, the Pasco County Sheriff's office said. Her record also contains six misdemeanor charges, the sheriff's office said.
    [...]
The sheriff's office didn't have information on the disposition of the past charges against the brothers and sister.

The Pasco County Sheriff's office will seek a warrant Monday against Ryan Dougherty for failing to register as a sex offender in the county, the sheriff said in a statement. That registration was required after his sentencing this week for sending harmful information to a minor, Tobin said.

Post Manhunt Still On For Dougherty Siblings

Florida – Three siblings from Florida, with 20 felonies among them, are still on the run from law enforcement following a high-speed chase in which they fired shots at police, and a Georgia bank robbery. The FBI have joined in the hunt for*Ryan Edward Dougherty, 21, sister Lee Grace E. Dougherty, 29, and half-brother Dylan Dougherty Stanley, 26 that started on Monday, *shortly after*Ryan Dougherty was sentenced to 10 years’ probation for*sexting with an 11-year-old girl. He*sent his mother a text message: “There’s a time for all of us to die,” before cutting off his GPS monitoring ankle bracelet and leaving with his two other siblings in a stolen vehicle owned by Ryan’s live-in*girlfriend. Early*Tuesday*morning, a Zephyrhills, Florida police officer tried pulling over three for speeding. This led to a*five-mile pursuit that reached speeds of 100 mph in which the occupants of the car shot numerous rounds at the officer, one of them disabling the officer’s car. Later that same day, and 200 miles away, three individuals wearing nun masks and armed with AK-47′s entered the CertusBank in Valdosta, Georgia. The FBI said shots were fired at the ceiling, and everyone was told to get down.*They escaped with an undisclosed amount of money, police said. Their mother is begging them to stop what they are doing and to surrender peacefully. “Your lives are not over. You’ve made some bad mistakes, but so far no one has been physically harmed,” Bell said. “The only safe thing, the only right thing, the only good thing to do is to turn yourselves in.” Law enforcement have no idea where the siblings are or where they may be heading so they are using digital billboards showcasing photos of the trio in several states stretching from Texas to New York. Anyone who sees them or their is asked to call the FBI at (404) 679-9000 or the Valdosta Police Department at 229-293-3145. If you wish to remain anonymous you can call 229-293-3091. Lee — a fugitive, self-described redneck, bank robbing, part time dancer at a*Cocoa Beach topless club called Cheaters — is asked to call me for a place to crash.

I won't always bash parents but it's safe to say that in case, there was a serious lack of it. For three of your kids to have 20 felonies between them,,it's quite clear the parents didn't do their job.

THis is one of the cases where I don't think the outcome is going to be a peaceful one. Yes they make taken by surprise but I have a feeling this is one of those cases where one or all of them (especially the sex offender brother) are going to go down shooting.

Refusing to pull over for a traffic stop, the white sedan turns into the parking lot of a CVS pharmacy with a Zephyrhills police officer in pursuit.

Suddenly, a series of popping sounds ring out. The officer curses under his breath and tries to keep following.

"He fired several more shots at me," Officer Kevin Widner tells dispatchers. "I got a flat tire. It seems I won't be able to keep up to him."

There are many cases where a person talks tough but when cornered, they act like the cowards they are. I don't think that will be the case here. None of them have anything to lose at this point and from their messages, it doesn't sound like they care if they live or die.

Fugitive "Dougherty Gang" reported in Colorado Springs
A nationwide manhunt for three siblings on the FBI's most-wanted list focused on Colorado on Tuesday, after a "very credible" report placed the so-called Dougherty Gang in the state.

"Our investigation leads us to believe that this is them," said FBI Denver spokesman Dave Joly.
    [...]

"We believe they pose a very imminent threat to the community we serve and to law enforcement," Joly said.

He said that based on the fugitives' purchases, including camping supplies, officials believe "they might be headed to a rural area or a campsite to avoid law enforcement detection."

The car seen Tuesday in Colorado Springs had stolen Texas license plates LCS 909.

When their flight began, Ryan Dougherty was accused of sending hundreds of explicit text messages to an 11-year-old girl he met on MySpace. He has 14 previous felonies on his record.

His sister, who had recently worked as a stripper at a Cocoa Beach, Fla., club called Cheaters, has been arrested five times on hit-and-run charges, and also has a number of misdemeanor arrests and convictions.
    [...]
    http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_18650044

A thrill-seeking Florida stripper and her AK-47-toting siblings on a multistate crime spree yesterday ignored their heartsick mother's plea to give themselves up, authorities said.
    [...]

"The only safe thing, the only right thing, the only good thing to do is turn yourselves in," Barbara Bell begged her kids.

"Only Mom knows what good people you are inside," she said.

"Please prove me right . . .You've made some bad mistakes, but so far, no one has been physically harmed.

    "I love you," she added.
    [...]

The FBI believes the trio first tried to flee the highway cop because of Ryan Dougherty, who was sentenced Aug. 1 to 12 years of probation for sending nearly 400 sexually explicit text messages to an 11-year-old girl he met on MySpace.

As part of his plea deal, Ryan had been required to register as a sex offender -- which he had not yet done -- and did not want to risk going to jail because of it if caught, officials believe.
    [...]

Police said the Doughertys have sent at least one text message to their mom while on the lam.

"There's a time for all of us to die," it read.

    [...]

A police search of an abandoned home that the Dougherty trio had recently shared turned up an expansive underground bunker. The siblings are believed to have a stockpile of weapons with them.

"I don't think this will end happily," said Lee Grace's fiancé of seven months, college math teacher Brendon Bookman.

Records show the twice-divorced Bookman, 43, was arrested on domestic-violence charges in May, the same day his fiancée was nabbed in the car-bashing incident.

Fugitive Siblings Sought in Armed Robbery Arrested in Colorado

DEVELOPING: Three fugitive siblings accused of crimes in Florida and Georgia were arrested Wednesday following a car crash in southern Colorado, Fox News has confirmed.
Ryan Dougherty, 21, Dylan Dougherty, 26 and their sister, Lee Grace Doughtery, 29, were taken into custody after a "short pursuit" on Interstate 25 near Walsenburg, roughly 50 miles north of the New Mexico state line, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Idiots can't even get "go out in a blaze of glory" right.

Fugitive siblings from Florida were taken into custody in Colorado this morning after they led law enforcement officers on a 100-mph chase.

Lee Grace Dougherty, 29, Ryan Edward Dougherty, 21, and half brother Dylan Dougherty Stanley, 26 — called the "Dougherty Gang" — crashed their car. Lee Dougherty was shot in the leg.

Southbound lanes of Interstate 25 have been closed at mile marker 53 north of Walsenburg because of the police activity.

The Colorado State Patrol confirmed on Twitter there was a short pursuit of the three fugitives this morning that ended in a car crash.

Charlene Graham, bureau chief for law enforcement with the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, said the siblings took officers on a 100-mph chase on the highway. The siblings crashed around mile marker 52 or 53.
    http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_18653096

According to the state patrol, the vehicle they were driving was spotted south of Pueblo and it sped off when state patrol troopers attempted to pull it over. The vehicle crashed and rolled about 9:30 a.m. At 9:47 a.m. two of the siblings – the woman and one of her brothers -- were taken into custody and the third brother ran from the crash toward Interstate 25. He was arrested just before 10 a.m.

Trooper Heather Cobler, a state patrol spokeswoman, said that the siblings did shoot at troopers at one point during the incident but no troopers were injured. One of the siblings was also injured, but Cobler was unsure if it was because of the crash or if happened afterward. She said the injuries were not life-threatening and the sibling was taken to the hospital.

The Wednesday vehicle chase started after authorities received a report that the suspects were at a campground near Colorado City, the Colorado State Patrol said in a statement obtained by NBC News.

The car was gone by the time deputies arrived but was spotted by another Pueblo County deputy near a Subway restaurant near Exit 74 on Interstate 25, Taylor said.

One suspect was in the car when deputies spotted it, and the other two siblings jumped in and a chase began at 9:36 a.m., NBC station KUSA reported.

The roughly 20-mile chase ended when the siblings' vehicle crashed after troopers set tire-puncturing stop-sticks on the road, the State Patrol said.

Chase speeds were over 100 mph at times and shots were fired, Taylor said.

Deputies told KUSA the siblings were traveling so fast, they ran off the side of the road, hit a guardrail and flipped their car. Lee Grace Dougherty then reportedly got out of the car and began shooting at authorities, they said. She was shot in the leg by authorities, but her injury is non-life threatening, deputies said.

Taylor said no officers were hurt in the shootout.

Lee Grace Dougherty and one man were arrested at the shootout scene, deputies told KUSA. The second man fled but was captured at a nearby hotel, they said.

Thanks, @Obsolete . I guess I should read better before spouting off. I'm just glad they've been caught before they could actually kill someone, and I have no doubt they might have been headed in that direction given enough time.

The sinister siblings, Lee Grace Dougherty, Ryan Edward Dougherty, and Dylan Dougherty Stanley, were arrested Wednesday after a 20-mile car chase along Interstate 25, authorities said.
The trio shot at cops during the 100 mph pursuit, one of siblings shooting back with an AK-47, police said.
What the Doughertys didn't know was that an off-duty Colorado State Patrol officer heard they were coming his way, the Denver Post reported. In his vehicle was a "stop-stick," a tire-deflating device, and he was ready for the siblings when they came his way.
The white, four-door Subaru Impreza they were driving was soon off the road and smashed into a guard rail, police said. The Dougherty Gang quickly fled the vehicle as cops closed in.
Lee Grace "took off running," Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk Taylor said at a news conference on Wednesday. She "turned to chamber a round" but was then shot in the leg by police.
The two brothers went down far easier, with one captured immediately and the other found hiding nearby after a brief foot chase.
"No law enforcement officers were injured during the various shots fired incidents with the trio," the Pueblo Co. Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
Among the weapons found in the Doughertys' car were two machine pistols, two AK-47s and a handgun, ABC News reported.

Just before she and her two brothers were captured after a manhunt lasting more than a week, Lee Grace Dougherty pointed her machine pistol at a Colorado police chief, but the chief fired his .40-caliber handgun first, wounding her in the right upper thigh, according to an investigator's affidavits released Thursday.

"I pointed the gun at the cop," Dougherty told the FBI and Colorado Bureau of Investigation agent Christian L. Mohr.

"I deserved to get shot," Dougherty, 29, told authorities, according to Mohr's affidavit. "The cop said drop the gun."

When she was shot, "instantly, I let go of the gun," Dougherty told the FBI. "The pain was all through my body."
    [...]

During a high-speed chase before the Doughertys' car crashed, Ryan Dougherty was behind the wheel, and Dylan Dougherty Stanley was firing an AK-47 at pursuing officers and their vehicles, Lee Grace Dougherty told authorities, according to a second affidavit filed by Mohr.

"We weren't trying to hurt anyone, we just wanted them to get back," Lee Grace Dougherty told investigators after her arrest. "They were way back, and we could barely see them. We were getting shot at, then we wrecked."

Mohr inserted a note in his affidavit saying that police never fired upon the Doughertys: "No shots were fired at the vehicle and she may have mistaken the sounds of the tire deflation device they ran over."

She told investigators that she "didn't shoot at any cop in the state of Colorado," according to Mohr's affidavit.

In the Florida incident, the Doughertys successfully eluded police after the officer's car tire was shot out from one of the many rounds fired from the Dougherty's stolen car, authorities said.

Just days before the Dougherty Gang allegedly robbed a Georgia bank last week -- the lady of the bunch stripped down to her birthday suit for a hardcore XXX photo shoot.

29-year-old Lee Grace Dougherty -- a sometime professional exotic dancer -- was approached by some friends who host poker games ... who asked if she would waitress at their events and pose nude for their promotional materials. Lee obliged ... and over the past 6 weeks, she posed for a series of VERY revealing pictures which give the term "photo spread" a whole new meaning.

One person connected to the photo shoots tells us Lee posed for some of the photos as recently as July 29, less than a week before the bank robbery. We're told Dougherty was not paid for the "modeling" work.

An interesting twist developed Thursday in the case of two carjackings in Pleasant Grove, each within minutes of the other on the morning of Sunday, Aug. 7.

Pleasant Grove police have confirmed that the prime suspects are the Dougherty siblings, those two brothers and sister from Florida who made national news after their high speed chase and shootout with police in Colorado.
    [...]

In both cases in Pleasant Grove, the victims had guns pointed in their faces, and in one instance, shots were fired in the air. One of the victims reported the getaway car was a white Subaru with Colorado plates -- the same type of vehicle the Dougherty's were caught driving in Colorado.
    [...]

Pleasant Grove police aren't giving any specifics about what the siblings were doing in Utah or their motive for the carjackings here, but it appears the Dougherty's are connected to the carjackings in Pleasant Grove.

    Dougherty Brothers' Hearing Delayed
Sister Lee Grace Dougherty Pleaded Not Guilty
WALSENBURG, Colo. -- The hearing was delayed on Monday for two siblings accused in a series of crimes across multiple states.
Dylan Stanley Dougherty and Ryan Dougherty appeared before a judge Monday in Walsenburg. However, because the defense is waiting for DNA results, the hearing was delayed for 60 days.
The brothers are expected back in court on Jan. 30 to enter pleas.
The sister, Lee Grace Dougherty, pleaded not guilty last month. A judge scheduled a two-week trial for her starting Feb. 21.
The trio faces five counts each of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, vehicle theft, theft by receiving and displaying fictitious or altered license plates, according to court documents.
The widely publicized, cross-country manhunt for the Doughertys ended Aug. 10 near Walsenburg, about 150 miles south of Denver, following a chase on Interstate 25. The chase began when the trio was spotted near Colorado City. It ended near Walsenburg when the trio's car was forced off the road by law enforcement.
Investigators said Ryan Dougherty admitted they were headed to Mexico to elude authorities after he was convicted in Florida of sending sexually explicit text messages to an 11-year-old girl.
