Josue Manrique Irons Son's Face Over Missing $1 Bill

Joliet police said a man burned his 11-year-old son with a clothes iron to force the boy to confess to stealing a dollar from him.

Josue E. Manrique, 35, was charged with of aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery of a child.

Cmdr. Brian Benton said Manrique admitted he’d been drinking Saturday night and acknowledged being on edge before returning home about 3 a.m. Sunday.

“He’d been watching a boxing match where his fighter had lost and was having transmission problems with his car on the way home,” Benton said. “When he came home, he noticed a dollar missing from his dresser and that apparently set him off.”

Police say Manrique took a leather belt and woke his son up by hitting him with it. After striking the boy several times, Manrique turned on the iron and burned the boy on his forearm and top of his hand when the boy denied taking the dollar.

Then he threw his son on the bed and put the iron on the boy’s chin, Benton said.

Manrique then told the boy to go back to sleep and also went to bed, police said. Later that morning the boy told a relative what happened, and Manrique was arrested at his home at 10:42 a.m. Sunday

“He initially claimed he had been struggling with the boy to keep him from burning himself with the iron, but later changed his statement,” Benton said.

Poor baby. Obviously that was a valid excuse to wake up his son and abuse him. /sarcasm

Probably sleeping... it was 3am. I could sleep through that. Not that I would want to but I've always been a very hard sleeper. Hubby is the same way. Our kids know that if they call us in the middle of the night that it may take repeated calls to rouse us. It also depends on the home and where the bedrooms are located. In the house that I grew up in, if you were in the master bedroom, you heard nothing from the 2 bedrooms in the basement. Very handy to know as a teen...

I suspect the "relative" that called the cops in the morning was the mom or whoever was in the home while he was out getting his edge on.

Used a belt to beat the kid awake so he could burn him with a hot iron, and the best excuse he can come up with for doing that shit is the loss of a fucking dollar which he himself probably spent on beer in the first damn place. Asshole extraordinaire. I'd never let him near my kids again after that, and I hope the kids mother feels the same.

...It never occured to him too maybe ask the mom about the missing dollar? Maybe he knew he wasnt man enough to try and come at her like this so he went for his son. I wonder if mom was the relative who called police on this idiota. I sure hope so coz if she saw her son the next morning and wasnt suspicious as to why he was crispified like Freddy Kreuger then she's either dense or dont give a fuck. We don't even know yet if mom was there in the house or if any other adult was in the home at all. The article doesn't say one way or the other. This fuckstick could have had the boy on a weekend visitation for all we know. And he seems like such a stand up parent I wouldn't put it past him to leave his 11 year old home alone most the night while he went out and get shitfaced.

So until I hear more I am going to refrain from commenting on the mother.

I'm just glad the relative he did tell the next day reported this asshole who shouldn't have kids.

My son accidentally set my iron on my glass table and it shattered it, those irons get fucking hot. I can't even imagine how much pain that poor kid was in.
