Lt. Gregg Hastings, spokesperson for Oregon State Police (OSP), said that Trooper Mark Jubitz saw a GMC Envoy traveling on Klindt Drive with its hazard lights on. The SUV was reportedly having trouble staying in its lane, and was periodically stopping on the road. Jubitz saw the front passenger steering the vehicle as it pulled into a parking lot, Hastings said.
The trooper pulled over the vehicle, at which time he reportedly found 34-year-old Jose Israel Torres in the passenger seat steering, and a boy sitting in the driver’s seat. He also saw an open container of alcohol and several empty cans in the back seat.
Torres was booked into the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facility on charges of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Reckless Driving and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
Before Torres was taken to jail, he called his wife to come take custody of their son, OSP said. When she arrived, she did not have a valid driver’s license, and was cited for the violation
