Kerry & Merilyn Parks Accused In Severe Beatings Of Young Boy

SEABROOK, TX (KTRK) -- A Seabrook man and woman are accused in connection with the severe beatings of their young child.
According to court documents, the 11-year-old boy had bandages on his waist, rear and thigh with bodily fluids seeping through them. He told police that his adoptive father, Kerry Dean Parks, had been beating him almost daily with a leather belt for about three months. He also said his father would rub vinegar, alcohol and salt on those wounds, which would cause him even more pain and led to severe burn injuries.

Court documents state the boy said Kerry Parks would remove bandages, rub the chemicals into the wounds, then reapply bandages.

Police say the child told them that Kerry Parks grabbed his head and smashed it into a decorative column at the top of the stairway at their residence during the week before Christmas last year, causing him tissue loss and permanent disfigurement.

The boy was admitted to Shriner's Hospital for the burns.

According to police, the boy's biological mother, Merilyn Louise Parks, admitted she would purchase bandages for her son, but that she never attempted to stop Kerry Parks and did not take the boy to the hospital for his injuries.

Kerry Parks, 50, is charged with two counts of injury to a child. Merilyn Parks, 35, is charged with injury to a child omission.

A Seabrook couple is accused of beating their 11-year-old son with a leather belt last year and applying vinegar, salt and alcohol to his wounds, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

Criminal warrants have been issued for the suspects, Kerry Dean Parks, 50, and Merilyn Parks, 35, who remained at large Monday, court records show. They are each charged with felony injury to a child – serious bodily injury.

A judge set their bond at $30,000 each.

The staff at Seabrook Intermediate School called police on Jan. 4, 2012, to investigate a child welfare case, according to an arrest warrant filed in the case.

Officers arrived at the school and found the boy, now 12, lying on a couch in a fetal position. Investigators led the boy to a private room, where he was asked to disrobe, the complaint states.

What investigators saw was an eye-opener.

The boy “had bandages applied to his waist, buttocks and rear thigh area with bodily fluids seeping through them,” investigators said in the criminal complaint. The victim was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital, and later was transferred to Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Galveston.

The boy told investigators that his adoptive father, Kerry Parks, had beat him with a leather belt “approximately once or twice a day” before the start of the school year at the home that they shared with his mother, Merilyn Parks and infant baby sister, according to the complaint.

After the beatings, the suspect would apply chemicals such as alcohol, salt or vinegar to the injuries “almost on a daily basis, and this caused (the boy) to suffer great pain and disfigurement include severe burn injuries,” the arrest warrant states.

On many occasions, investigators said, Kerry Parks “would remove bandages previously placed on these injuries, which also caused great pain, and after the chemicals were put on the injuries the defendant would apply the bandages,” court records show.

Police said the alleged abuse took place from Oct. 1 to Dec. 24, 2011.

The week before Christmas 2011, investigators said, Kerry Parks “would use his hands to smash the left and right sides of the (victim’s) head into a decorative column near the top of the stairway,” according to the arrest warrant.

Because . . . the shine of NEW had worn off the boy. Now she has a shiny new girl with the assmuncher and she wants to focus on her exclusively, I guess.

I am so freakin' disgusted with these people! The adoption of the boy by his step father did not take place overnight. Why adopt a kid you are doing your level best to torture to death? My step-father never adopted me, and he was a great father to me. Adoption is not a license to maim. And that excuse for a mother? Just . . . argh! I want to disfigure her!

The boy probably started to play up a little, puberty kicking in and Mum and Step Dad, ( I use the terms loosely), had a new pet project to focus on, baby sister. We have a sticker that says dogs are for life, not just for xmas, some people in our community get a new dog every time they fancy a new breed, and pass the old pet off to the local shelter, disgusting way to treat your kids, but I can't help feeling the likeness with these folks who just should not be allowed to breed.

I know it shouldn't but it always surprises me when people with this level of education and credentials condone and participate in child abuse. That sort of hatred and violence just seems so diametrically opposed to being educated, if that makes any sense...

Stepdads been arrested, police still searching for mom

Parents 'beat son, then poured salt, vinegar and alcohol in his wounds'
Charged: Kerry Dean Parks, 50, is accused of whipping his adopted son with a leather belt and pouring salt, vinegar and alcohol on the wounds
A couple from Seabrook, Texas are accused of beating their 11-year-old son with a leather belt and applying salt, vinegar and alcohol to his wounds.
According to the criminal complaint against the pair, the boy had to be hospitalised after officers found him curled on a sofa in the foetal position, with 'bandages applied to his waist, buttocks and rear thigh area with bodily fluids seeping through them.'
Kerry Dean Parks, 50, and Merilyn Parks, 35, have been charged with causing serious bodily injury to a child.

The Houston Chronicle reported that Mr Parks was arrested yesterday at an apartment in Houston, while his wife remains at large.

Police attention was drawn to the case when staff at Seabrook Intermediate School asked them to investigate the child's welfare on January 4.
He was promptly taken to Texas Children's Hospital, and later transferred to Shriner's Hospital for Children in Galveston.

The boy told investigators his adoptive father Kerry Parks had beat him with a leather belt 'approximately once or twice a day' between October 1 and December 24 2011.

The abuse took place at the home they shared with his mother, Merilyn Parks, and his baby sister.

After beating his adopted son, Parks allegedly applied alcohol, salt and vinegar to the injuries on an almost daily basis.

As well as enduring considerable pain, the boy suffered disfigurement including severe burn injuries.

Court records state that on many occasions Parks 'would remove bandages previously placed on these injuries, which also caused great pain, and after the chemicals were put on the injuries the defendant would apply the bandages.'

The week before Christmas, investigators said, Parks 'would use his hands to smash the left and right sides of the (victim's) head into a decorative column near the top of the stairway.'
The boy's mother told police she had bought bandages for her son, but never attempted to stop her husband's sadistic beatings, or take the boy to a doctor or hospital.

Both the boy and his 11-month old sister are now in the custody of the Child Protective Services.

'It's the best situation,' Ms Olguin said. 'When you've got abuse allegedly being perpetrated by one parent and the other parent fails to protect (the child) or report the abuse, then they're obviously not capable of protecting that child and the child should not stay in that home.'
Seabrook Police are asking anyone with information on Merilyn Parks's whereabouts to contact them on 281-291-5610.

I had to find out what the rest of his T-shirt said:

    "Christianity is not a religion,"

    on the back:

"Religion is humans trying to work their way to God" and "Christianity is God coming to men and women through a relationship with Jesus Christ." And a quote of John 3:16.

If he genuinely believed what was on his shirt, he never would have tortured that boy.
