A Philadelphia police officer is in jail after allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
Anthony Dattilo, 36, was arrested on Thursday over claims he abducted the teenager and had sex with her in a Bensalem Township motel room.
Police found the 12-year-veteran at the Lincoln Motel on Lincoln Highway at around 12.30am, following reports from the girl's family of a possible abduction.
ABC News reported that she had sent text messages to relatives claiming she was being held against her will by a man who was forcing her to have sex with him.
Dattilo was fondling the girl when officers showed up, police sergeant Andrew Aninsman said. They also found her 21-year-old cousin, who had previously had been paid by Dattilo for sex.
Reported by philly.com as being Dattilo’s girlfriend, the cousin had allegedly coerced the girl into going to the motel room, promising her $100 if she had sex with him.
While there she was forced to watch as the couple had sex, she tearfully told police after being found.
Dattilo was suspended from the police force and charged with aggravated indecent assault without consent, unlawful sexual contact with a minor, patronizing of prostitutes, corruption of minors and other related offences.
He posted 10 per cent of a $500,000 bail on Friday morning and was released having spent one night in jail. If convicted, he faces more than 20 years in prison and more than $50,000 in fines.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey told Fox News: ‘It's always unfortunate because whenever it happens with a police officer, it's not just an individual who's being arrested.
‘It casts a bad shadow on an entire police department, and that's something I could do without. It's disappointing, but we don't need people like this in our ranks.
