'Now we can go home': Rescued girl tells sister their two-week ordeal is over as kidnapper turns gun on himself police reveal
Adam Mayes committed suicide after being found by police on Thursday with two girls - Alexandria, 12, and Kyliyah, 8 - who he kidnapped after killing their mother and sister

Turned 9mm pistol on himself after being told by the police to drop his weapon and died in hospital two hours later

The two girls were lying inches away from the shooting

The girls were rescued after three days in the thick woods of New Albany, Mississippi and were dehydrated
Alexandria Bain turned to her sister Kyliyah after Mayes hot shot himself and said 'Now we can go home'

Officers spotted them after after a tip-off from the public

Police have revealed that after their kidnapper shot himself in the head just inches from them, Alexandria Bain turned to her younger sister Kyliyah and said, 'Now we can go home'.
Rescued by police after a late night tip-off from a member of the public, officers stumbled across Alexandria, 12 and Kyliyah, 8, lying on their stomachs in the thick undergrowth along with their kidnapper, Adam Mayes, 35.
Having swarmed the remote woods near New Albany, Mississippi after receiving the anonymous phone call, it was a keen-eyed officer who caught a glimpse of a blonde head of hair peeking over a ridge as Mayes attempted to evade capture.

'We saw something lying down by the wood line that caught our attention. We took another five steps, and I gazed around and saw one of the children. An officer started hollering, 'Get your hands up,' said Master Sgt. Steve Crawford at a news conference to mark the girls rescue.

'All three were lying face down on the ground trying to take cover.'

While the girls lifted their hands as slowly as they could, Mayes only raised one hand, the other held a 9mm pistol.

'Mayes raised his hand and I could see the gun,' said Crawford.
    [...]

Despite the tumultuous two weeks the girls have lived through, police were pleased with the dramatic recovery and rescue.

'A lot of prayers were answered when we found these two young ladies to be safe,' said Crawford.

Receiving a drink of water after officers took them away from the scene of Mayes suicide, the girls were taken by two female agents to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
These details come as four neighbours of Mayes were arrested in connection with the case, authorities said on Friday, one day after the man committed suicide.

I'm so glad he didn't kill the girls. So glad. The trash is gone but feel so bad for the mother and girl who didn't make it.

Adam Mayes' mother faces new charges

In court Tuesday, we learned that Mary Frances Mayes, Adam's mother, now faces charges of especially aggravated kidnapping. She was originally charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated kidnapping. Her bond is now at $500,000.

Teresa Mayes, Adam's widow, is charged with two counts of murder, as well as especially aggravated kidnapping.
    [...]

"One of the things that the state will have to establish is venue. She's [Mary] charged with conspiracy so they'll have to show an overt act that was committed by my client in furtherance of the charge of especially aggravated kidnapping," explained Mary Frances Mayes' Defense Attorney, Terry Dycus.

It is quite the dilemma. Mississippi has a body nobody wants. But something has to be done eventually.

"We've had some unusual cases but none like this where the family won't even accept the remains," said Mark Golding, the Union County M.E.

Adam Mayes' body is still in Jackson, Mississippi at the state crime lab and time is running out. Union County M.E. Mark Golding says the state will keep a body for 6 months, before it goes back to the county.

Golding says according to state law, the county where a person dies is the county responsible for the body. Adam Mays shot himself in a wooded area in Union County.

Mississippi's state law also says if there are any living relatives, it is the family's responsibility to take care of the body. Adam Mayes wife, Teresa Mayes is behind bars in Hardeman County, Tennessee along with his mother. Both are accused of conspiracy in the murder of JoAnn Bain and her 14 year old daughter and the kidnapping of Bain's two youngest daughters.

Mayes brother has also said he doesn't want the body.

"I do realize it's a terrible thing that has went on but someone is going to have to step up to the plate and eventually do something with him," said Golding.

Golding considered getting the family's permission to donate Mayes body for research. But he says that has to be decided before a person dies.

"I don't know what to think about it," said Robery Chisum a resident of Union County. "Somebody needs to come forward and claim the body."

"If that's his family that's his family," added Kim Whitehorn of Union County. "No matter what."

Union County M.E., Mark Golding says he is going to contact Mayes brother to see if something can be worked out. He says if the county ultimately has to take care of the body it will be cremated at a cost of about 900 dollars.

Why can't it be donated if nobody wants it? Have them all sign a release and donate the hell out of it! Cheaper than cremation and maybe they'll disect his brain and figure out what made him do the horrible things he did. I know, I know, not bloody likely.

A breakthrough on Wednesday has help determine the fate of the body of Adam Mayes.
    [...]

On Wednesday, Union County Coroner Mark Golding told WTVA.com that he was notified by the Hardeman County, Tennessee District Attorney's office that the University of Tennessee at Knoxville would accept Mayes' body.

It will go to one of its departments.

Golding says it once again shows the cooperation between all the agencies that have been involved in the case.

Golding personally drove to Jackson to retrieve the body and take it to Knoxville.

The wife of a man accused of abducting two Tennessee girls after killing their mother and older sister told authorities that he was obsessed with one of the younger girls and planned the crime for over a year, a state investigator testified on Monday.

The testimony came during a preliminary hearing for Teresa Mayes, who is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping in the high-profile case.

Prosecutors say Teresa Mayes assisted her husband, 35-year-old Adam Mayes, in the kidnappings in late April. Adam Mayes shot himself to death in northern Mississippi on May 10 as police closed in on him.

His mother, Mary Mayes, is also charged with two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping for helping transport the missing girls to a hiding place in the Mississippi woods where they were ultimately found by authorities.

During Monday's hearing, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Agent Valerie Troutt read a written statement given to investigators by Teresa Mayes in which she said that on the day of the kidnappings, she took the two younger girls, 12-year-old Alexandria Bain and 8-year-old Kyliyah Bain, on a drive.

Teresa Mayes told the investigators that when she returned, she found her husband outside the Bain house with two bodies wrapped in a tarp, Troutt said.

Mayes told the investigators that her husband had poisoned the father, Gary Bain, with a combination of drugs, Troutt said.

Mayes said Adam Mayes lured the mother, Jo Ann Bain, from her home, hit her in the head with a wooden board and strangled her with a rope and smothered the eldest daughter, Adrienne Bain, to death, according to Troutt.

Teresa Mayes described in her statement how she helped bring the bodies and the girls back to Mississippi and hid the girls in the woods, Troutt said.

The bodies of the mother and the older child were discovered May 4 in shallow graves behind a double-wide trailer Adam Mayes had shared with his wife and parents.

Teresa Mayes told authorities her husband already had Social Security numbers and was building new identities for the younger girls, according to testimony from Troutt.

On cross-examination, a defense lawyer questioned Troutt on the circumstances that led to Teresa Mayes giving her statement to authorities and whether she had been properly informed of her rights.

At the conclusion of the day's proceedings, Hardeman County General Sessions Court Judge Chip Cary ordered both Teresa and Mary Mayes' case bound over to a grand jury, which will begin considering the case in January.

Post Adam Mayes Planned Kidnapping of 12-Year-Old For Over A Year

Bolivar, MS – Teresa Mayes’s statement to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations (TBI) was read in court on Monday.* In it, she reveals that her husband of 11 years, Adam Mayes (pictured), had plotted the kidnapping of Alexandria and Kyliyah Bain as well as the murder of their remaining family for a year before acting on his plan.
She claimed that Adam Mayes was in love with 12-year-old Alexandria and that he planned to move to Mexico with the two girls, where he and Alexandria would raise Kyliyah, 8, as their daughter.
Teresa Mayes is facing two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping for her involvement in the plan.* Adam Mayes’s mother, Mary Frances Mayes, is being charged with especially aggravated kidnapping for hers.
Much to my surprise, this story doesn’t seem to have been covered here on DD, so I’ll attempt to bring you up to speed with a chronological retelling of the story.
At some point, Adam Mayes fell in love with the middle daughter of family friends Gary and Jo Ann Bain.* When he learned that the Bains were planning to move from Whiteville, TN to Arizona, he hatched a plan that would allow him to be with his “new love” permanently.* Unfortunately for the three eldest members of Bain family, the plan did not include the continuance of their lives.…

Yes, we would all like to think we'd do something; but this particular wife is mentally disabled. Not that most mentally disabled people do not know right from wrong; but they do tend to be extremely loyal as well.......

Teresa Mayes and Mary Frances Mayes were arraigned earlier today at the Criminal Justice Complex in Hardeman County, for their roles in the murders of Joann Bain and her 14-year old daughter, Adrienne.

They were also charged with the kidnappings of Bain's youngest daughters, Alexandria and Kyliyah.

Teresa, the widow of Adam Mayes, was charged with two counts of aggravated kidnapping and two counts of first degree murder.

Mary Frances, the mother of Adam Mayes, was charged with two counts of aggravated kidnapping.

A trial date is set for May 16, 2013.
    http://www.wbbjtv.com/news/local/May...186337522.html

Teresa Mayes appeared in court in Bolivar on Thursday after being indicted on two charges of first-degree murder and two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping. Authorities say Mayes hid in her car as her husband Adam Mayes abducted two young girls and killed their mother and older sister at their Whiteville home April 27.
    [...]

Teresa Mayes took the girls for a ride in the couple's Dodge Durango after their abduction, authorities said. When they returned to the home, Adam Mayes had wrapped the dead bodies of Jo Ann Bain and 14-year-old Adrienne Bain in tarps, authorities said.

The couple then drove home to Guntown with the bodies and the surviving girls, 12-year-old Alexandria and 8-year-old Kyliyah, investigators said. Adam Mayes, 35, buried the bodies in their backyard with a borrowed shovel and escaped into the woods with the girls, according to a statement Teresa Mayes has provided investigators.
    [...]

Teresa Mayes and her mother-in-law, Mary Frances Mayes, have been held in jail since their arrests in May. Mary Mayes also has been indicted in the case, charged with two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping for allegedly knowing about the abductions and not telling authorities the truth about it.
    [...]

Teresa Mayes told authorities her husband said he hit Jo Ann Bain in the head with a board, strangled her with a rope and smothered Adrienne. He also claimed to have drugged Gary Bain, the husband and father of the family, to ensure he couldn't stop the attack.

Adam Mayes threatened to kill his wife if she didn't help him, the statement said.
    http://www.sunherald.com/2013/01/10/...-indicted.html

Alexandria and Kyliah’s cousin says the girls still struggle with their kidnapping and the murder of their mother Jo Ann and sister Adrienne.

“It’s always going to be a problem. You know? They won’t ever get over this. But their doing fine vas well as can be expected I guess,” said the family member.

This family member didn’t want to give her name, but she did want to be in the court room while the women charged with kidnapping and killing her cousins had their pre-trial hearing.

At the hearing the judge also unsealed Teresa and Mary Mayes indictments.

They list over one hundred and seventy possible witnesses including the young victims.

This family member of the Bain girls hopes they aren’t called to the stand.

“They’re just girls you know. It would be a little too much for them I think.”

According to Teresa Mayes statement to the FBI 12-year-old Alexandria Bain thought she was being taken by Mayes to Mexico where they could get married, and Kyliah would be their little girl.

Being feet away from the woman who is making those claims isn’t easy for this Bain family member who is still at a loss.
