Woman sexually assaulted, forced to drink bleach
PHOENIX - A woman was taken to the hospital after a brutal rape Friday morning in central Phoenix, and she's only alive today thanks to a cab driver who knocked on the door.
The victim, who is in her 50s, was tied up and raped – and forced to drink bleach. She told police the attack went on all night, and she was raped multiple times. We are protecting the woman's identity.
The woman said the suspect told her he was going to kill her when he was done attacking her.
She was saved by a cab driver, who showed up at her home near 7th Street and Indian School at 8 a.m. and knocked on the door for a prearranged pickup to take her to the doctor.
She was able to make it to the door and was naked. The cab driver called 911.
"She came out nude, bounded with her arms tied and her mouth gagged -- she was unable to speak," said cab driver Gerardo Reyes. "She was just really scared and startled after what happened to her. What I've learned this happened last night, so who knows how long she was this way."
The suspect was taking a shower when the cabbie arrived. He fled when he heard the cabbie knock on the door.
A maintenance worker also helped the woman. He untied her and noticed she had several bruises.
"Her whole back, all the way down, was completely bruised and scratched. It was like purple, it was so bad.
She said that he was beating her and raping her all night -- and making her drink bleach," Charlie McDaniel said.
The woman said the man had also been smoking meth all night. We've learned he entered through an unlocked back door.
FOX obtained exclusive video of the woman being removed from her home by medics. The latest on her condition is unknown.
The attacker is still out there. Police searched for him for hours but did not find him. He is described as a black male, 25-30 years old, medium height, medium build, with shoulder length dreadlocks, wearing a backwards baseball cap, gray T-shirt, dark shorts, and flip-flops or sandals.
