Little snot disobeys him about internet usages, including posting inappropriate pics of herself online, he grounds her from one trip to try and enforce his rules and some fucking court not only TOOK the case, but OVERTURNED his punishment?? My kids would have sued me a million times. Dad was NOT doing anything "severe". If he had beaten her ass in a big way or locked her in the closet, I could see this happening.

My 10 yr old daughter has just recently attained the attitude of a 16 yr old...overall she's a good girl...but the attitude is just something else...I had been on her about cleaning of her filthy room...which of course she just ignored...after a week of her not doing as she was told...I told her she was grounded from sleepovers w/her friends (their house our ours) for month...and that she had 30 minutes to get in there and clean her room & if by 30 minutes it wasn't done...I was coming in there with a trash bag and picking whatever junk she had on the floor ...bag it up and tote it to goodwill...also confiscated her cell phone...so she cried "unfair...this is child abuse" and threw the hugest dramatic tantrum

I told her social services were 'friends' of mine of facebook and asked her if she wanted me to contact them to 'hear her claims"...LOL...she just stomped off pouting...needless to say..the room got cleaned

What's sad is that the father felt he had to give up custody because he no longer had any power over his daughter's behavior? Any punishment he gave would be threatened with a lawsuit I'm sure. The judge said that the daughter had already punished once for her bad behavior and shouldn't be punished again for it. The judge was wrong. The daughter was punished for using the internet inappropriately by losing internet privileges and then she disobeyed that punishment by using the internet at her friend's house. So she wasn't doubly punished and so what if she was anyway. That's a parent's right.

Too bad this was all anonymous; I would really like to know the current situation 3 years later. This girl would probably be about 15 now.

You know, my daughter is grounded. Her grades are atrocious, and she is not allowed to participate in after school programs, hang out with friends, use the computer.
Her friend asked her today if she could go to the movies tomorrow. I told her,"No, you are grounded until you bring your grades up." I told her about this thread, and she said she wants to move to Canada.
I think there should definitely be a line between parenting and legal precedence.
If you cannot ground your child whenever you feel it is necessary, then what is the point in parenting at all.

Madame Tessier is so wrong! She is encouraging the spoiled brat (and others like her) to just move around the countryside, looking for the best situation they can find, and abandoning their families whenever they don't like the circumstances. What, no meatloaf for dinner. I'm going to mom's! I can't have my own phone? I'm going to Uncle Joe's. I can't have my boyfriend over night? I'm going to my older sister's place. Way to go, Madame Tessier, in supporting responsible parenting.

If I were the father, I'd give up custody. I wouldn't want to be responsible for the adult that will come of that girl or for her hi-jinx along the way.

Pardon me if I'm wrong on this. Aren't we (as in Canada) supposed to have some sort of a law against bringing frivolous lawsuits to court? Or does that only work with idiots that try to sue for crunchberries not being real fruit, and the like?
