Burned Toddler Languished 8 Days Without Medical Care; Demar Barnes Arrested

2-year-old Las Vegas toddler suffered second- and third-degree burns to nearly 30 percent of his body, including his genitals, and had been deprived of professional medical care for eight days, according to a police report released Friday.

The boy’s stepfather, Demar Barnes, 20, Las Vegas, was arrested on Thursday and faces charges of child abuse with substantial bodily harm and child neglect with substantial bodily harm, Metro Police said. The boy had been left in Barnes’ care by his mother, 18-year-old Dialasia Williamson, who had been on a work trip to New York, police said.

Williamson left for New York on April 28 for work and returned Wednesday to Las Vegas after receiving troubling phone calls from a friend and her husband on the condition of her son, the report said. Upon Williamson’s return Wednesday, she saw her son’s injuries and immediately called 911, police said.

According to the report, Williamson’s son had suffered second- and third-degree burns to his lower legs and the tops of his feet. Second-degree burns also were found on his genitals and behind. Paper embedded into the boy’s burn wounds had to be surgically removed at University Medical Center, where the boy is recovering, the report said.

Barnes did not seek medical care for the 2-year-old after the burns first surfaced April 24, police said. Hospital officials also reported the boy was suffering from a fractured clavicle, according to the report.

Both parents told police the boy sustained the clavicle injury in an April 6 incident in which he fell out of a cart in a Walmart parking lot and landed on his head.

The 2-year-old is in critical condition, the report said.

According to the report, Barnes had told both Williamson and police that the boy had been burned by bathwater on April 25 and that his skin was peeling and bleeding. Barnes further told police the boy’s burns had blistered and he had cleaned the burns with peroxide and paper towels.

Police told Barnes the injuries the boy suffered did not fit Barnes’ description of what happened, but Barnes denied hurting the boy. He showed police a cell phone picture he had taken of the boy’s injuries, which police noted had a date imprint of April 24 on it.

Barnes had been in jail for four days for a domestic violence incident against his wife on Easter, according to the arrest report. He was released a day or two before his wife left for New York.

Oooh...I would have been hard pressed not to boil some cooking oil on the stove and flung it at this asshole.
I buy the clavicle injury only becoz if this shit stain had done it then, the Mom would have reported that incident as well seeing as she didn't hesitate to do so this time. Also she didn't wait til her trip to New York was concluded before she came home. Shows she had her priorities straight.
I hope she keeps away from this asshole he has already shown a proclivity for violence and it's not going to get any different.

So I'm going to guess he lost his shit with baby crying as babies do needing attending to. I don't get how pos like this think hurting a baby is going to stop the crying, the burning would have baby screaming bloody murder, crying until he was too tired and weak to do so. Makes me so damn angry, sure like the chance to kick his face in and burn that fucking hair off....and, by the look of his mug a cat could have done a better job taking care of baby. He looks really ticked off of f I wouldn't leave my plant with him.

I sure hope baby pulls through and heals well. He has had his share of suffering in such a short time of life.

OK, I see that now as I read back. So baby was really without medical attention for something like 5 days. Mom left on 28th, and returned wednesday that's the 2nd, and it sounds like baby was injured shortly after she left.

What also pisses me off is how mother didn't seek medical attention for baby after he fell out of a shopping cart on the 6th, fell on his "head" and apparently caused the clavicle injury. AND she leaves this fucking loser with her baby after he was jailed for domestic violence...I mean days and she's handing over her baby to this dick. What fucking idiot.

The picture I'm getting is that the male dipshit didn't do the violence to the boy, the female dipshit did. The broken clavicle happened before the Barnes went to jail, so he could have responsibility for that. He didn't take the baby to the doctor while he was alone with him, though. Obviously, Williamson didn't do that when she should have. It's a wonder she finally did when she got back. It's a wonder she didn't tell her POS husband and friend to take him to the hospital when they called about their concerns. None of them have any sense.

The burn locations suggest to me that the boy was seated with his knees up in the tub when hot water was run in it, causing the burns. With a broken clavicle, he might not have been able to stand without help because of the pain of pushing up on the side of the tub. To treat the burns, they would have needed tubs of burn ointment, yet instead they were using peroxide and paper towels!!!! FFS what is wrong with people? They should be subjected to having their own severe injuries treated by imbeciles.
