Former Editor Of Guns & Ammo Magazine Used Gun & Ammo to Kill

    Richard Venola
KINGMAN, AZ - The Mohave County sheriff's office says a former gun magazine editor has been arrested in the death of one of his friends.

Authorities say a neighbor called 911 Wednesday afternoon and told dispatchers her neighbor had shot a man.

Sheriff's deputies found 39-year-old James Patrick O'Neill dead of a rifle shot to the chest.

They arrested 53-year-old Richard Erick Venola of Golden Valley on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Venola and O'Neill had been drinking, but detectives say they don't know yet what led to the shooting. Venola declined to speak with detectives until he had a lawyer present.

Richard Venola, 53, was arrested by Mohave County Sheriff's deputies after allegedly shooting 39-year-old James Patrick O'Neill outside Venola's home in Golden Valley, which is outside of Kingman.

    [...]
According to the Sheriff's Office, O'Neill apparently had been visiting Venola, but what exactly the purpose of that visit was hasn't been disclosed.

O'Neill had a gunshot wound to the chest, and deputies confiscated a "large caliber rifle" from the scene.

Venola was booked into the Mohave County Jail on a second-degree murder charge, and the Sheriff's Office says the case is still being investigated.

I don't think you have to be a "nut" to expect people to use guns responsibly, particularly if you're viewed as somewhat of an authority on the issue and probably have other gun owners looking up to you for said position of authority.

In short, the inmates should not be leading the movement.

My problem is that people use instances like this to say no one but police/military should have guns.

No one ever hears about responsibly gun owners because there is NOTHING TO HEAR.

I don't even get why people would want to own guns. The US crime rate is pretty high, it's not lowering victimization. There are a lot of "accidents" with guns (and pit bulls) and every crazy person in the country has the right to own one. They seem to be very easy to get.

Thankfully, we don't have to convince you why we need them.
