Youth Coach Lorenzo Green Lured Boys To House With "Masturbation Contests"

    Lorenzo Green
MIAMI (WSVN) -- Police have arrested a basketball coach accused of some sickening foul play with young boys, but people who know him are standing by the coach.

Fifty-year-old Lorenzo Green has been a role model to children in his neighborhood for years, community members said, but he now faces a list of charges including lewd and lascivious molestation.

Green has been teaching children basketball at a neighborhood court for over two decades, according to residents. "A father figure, a role model, a caring coach," said one teen at the court.

It is how many in the playground described Green. "Coach Green has been coaching children for at least 20-some years," said Lurnard Rogers, a fellow coach.

However, according to Miami Police, Green lured boys to his home, played pornographic movies for them and convinced them to partake in masturbation contests in exchange for prize money. "It's very sad because indeed the parents rely on him being a role model, and that's exactly what he wasn't," said Miami Police Officer Kenia Reyes.

He was arrested after two of the boys he coached said Green invited them over to his home and allowed them to watch porn and take part in the lewd contest. "We would never let these kids watch pornography," said Rogers.

Laqwin Walter, who has been coached by the suspect said he has spent the night at Green's home and said Green never did anything inappropriate or wrong with him, nor did he see such things. "We played games, pool, watched TV and that's it," added Darius Walter, who has also been coached by Green.

Parents and fellow coaches in the community do not believe the accusations against Green, pointing out he would spend his own money on new shoes and clothes for the kids in the neighborhood. They also believe the two brothers making the accusations have a hidden agenda. "Probably mad with him," said Darrel Walter, "because he kicked them off the team."

Green is being held on $90,000 bond. When and if he gets out, he will be on house arrest and have to wear an ankle monitor. He has also been ordered to stay away from all children.

Police fear Green may have more victims out there including some who may be adults since he has been coaching for so many years. If you you believe you were a victim of Green, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.

What is with these "coaches" having kids stay the night? I asked my husband, who was little league if that was an occurance and he replied "not that I recall". He later said "Wella. I guess it might be 'normal' if he had kids of his own at home, but no way in hell if he is a bachelor".

I think it is mostly in poor urban areas (like many parts of Miami) where the families are so desperate to let their kid achieve far more than they ever could have themselves. It's even harder for immigrants, which Miami sure has plenty of. So, when a man they trust says he will help them reach their potential and make a name for themselves it probably seems like a godsend and their only option. Plus, parents in poor areas tend to have so many things to worry about when it comes to safety that child molesters likely aren't on that list.

Being poor really does make life hard in so, so many different ways...

I don't think it's just in 'poor' areas. The area I spent my teen years in, wasn't exactly all trailer park trash and broken down cars. I lived in project housing sure, but there were some pretty wealthy people living in the small community I lived in. I was in a group home when I was 15 and one of the adults in the group home took us kids to the movies one night and while at the theater he guided everyone on where to sit. He had me sit next to him and during the movie he kept grabbing my hand and making me touch him through his pants. I can't stand the movie ET (because that's the movie we went to see)... and when we got back to the group home, I told my room mate, who said if I didn't tell someone, she'd tell. So I had to tell. When I told, he was confronted and he accused me of lying (This is the first time I'd ever experienced someone pulling the race card) and said I was lying about it because he was black. His race didn't matter to me. If he'd been purple or pink or green, I still would've told on him. the head of the group home removed him from his shift and sent him home. After he left, the head of the group home and I talked. he asked me what prompted me to tell. I told him that it had just happened the previous night and I'd told my room mate, and she said if I didn't tell, she would. I was put into counseling for it.

I don't know if it's true that these teens are just mad at him, but if he really did do this, he needs to be punished for it. If he's innocent, equally the teens ought to be punished for crying wolf.

To me this part sounds more like a predator than a good coach . How can you afford to buy for all the kids , and if you just buy for a just a few won't that lead to resentment , and cries of not fair . Maybe I just have a suspicious mind , but I wonder he could be buying silence , or trying to get closer to these kids through gifts .

Absolutely . Sad thing is if they are lying nothing will give this man his life back the way it was before the lie .

I'm poor. I live in an area where it is common to hear police sirens. My family is on Food Stamps. The families living on either side of me speak very little English. Three months after we move from an apartment where a man was shot& killed by cops by our balcony, I come home from the grocery store to find a dead fucking body in the driveway across the street from my house. I'm not proud to be poor, but I accept the fact that I am at this point in my life.
In all the years I have been poor (see, this is what "Teen Mom" should really show. Those bitches have too much money), I have never had a "role model/mentor" ask to have my daughter stay overnight. Take her to the library or McDonald's, yes. Into their home without me present, I would have to know them bit better. Say "Hey! How's about I have tabikatze stay overnight? We can watch movies and play pool.", hell-to-the-motherfuckin-no-get-the-fuck-out-you-pedo.
And I know plenty of other poor people who share my thinking.

Die, they can still hurt your child on a trip to McDonald's or the library. All it takes is an opportunity.

Oh I know they can. I was using the library and McDonald's as an example of a public place that a normal, non-pedo mentor/role model might take a kid to. Of course, this is after I check their online court records and whatever Facebook/MySpace page they have. However, I know that not all parents will do that, but anyone who truely wants to help the child would ask the parents if they could take them to a public place and only a public place. Certainly not an overnight of movies and pool.

Too bad the judge isn't white. Then we could be sure he would get some decent punishment.
