Eli Walford, 2, vs Jeremy Kelly, 23, Rematch -- Kelly Wins Again, Takes 2 DV Charges

Charging documents claim Jeremy Kelly, 23, assaulted Eli Warford on Monday and Tuesday, while the toddler’s mother was at work and Kelly stayed home to care for him.

Amber Warford told detectives she received a Monday call from Kelly in which he claimed the child had fallen from a couch, hitting his head on the floor, and was acting clingy.

“She said that when she got home that night, Eli did not look right, and was acting lethargic and miserable,” officials wrote in the documents. “He went to bed that night after a bath, but did not sleep well.”

While Eli's mother was at work Tuesday, she received another call from Kelly, who said the child was vomiting. The vomiting continued when she returned home, so she took him to Providence Alaska Medical Center.

APD was subsequently called to Providence’s emergency room, where a pediatric specialist said the toddler had a skull fracture and a subdural hematoma -- a collection of blood on the surface of his brain.

“Warford described Kelly to have a temper and ‘anger management’ problem stating that he had slapped her on multiple occasions,” officials wrote. “She described Kelly as the ‘disciplinarian’ and described that they have disagreed over what she believed to be harsh parenting techniques.

During an interview with Kelly, in which he was informed of his Miranda rights -- including the right to remain silent -- he allegedly told detectives that the toddler had fallen off the couch and slipped in the bathtub. Later, however, Kelly admitted that he had thrown the boy to the floor in frustration and anger Monday and Tuesday, after the child threw toys and started to cry.

Kelly said he had punched the child in the chest three times after throwing him Monday to make him resume breathing, which caused him to recuperate but also start vomiting.

“He stated that on both occasions he did not meant to hurt Eli, but he thought he might have killed him as he had stopped breathing,” officials wrote. “He admitted that he used too much force to throw and hit Eli.”

Kelly denied any other instances similar to the two on Monday on Tuesday, but admitted to spanking the child hard enough to bruise the buttocks. The child had numerous other suspicious bruises.

“After his confession, Kelly told detectives that he was going to go far away or overseas where the police would never find him,” officials wrote. “He also said that people had taken their lives for less things than he had done.” . . .

“Detectives clarified what he meant by these comments, specifically asking if he planned on hurting himself,” the document continued. “Kelly told the detectives to ‘guess.’ When asked about his plans for flight, Kelly said that it would be easy to hide, and he was a ‘magician.’”

Amber Warford told Channel 2 Thursday that Eli was recovering from his injuries, which did not require surgery.

Eli may have lost that bout, but he's looking bright eyed and thankfully really well. While I wish his mom had had the sense to eradicate Jeremy from her life when he started slapping her around. He's out of her life, now, though, since he's threatening to disappear in a puff of smoke. (From a gun?) I doubt the police are going to let him out of jail.

That picture is so heartbreaking. He looks happy even with the bruises! I am so happy he lived. I hope this asshole gets what is coming to him in jail.

The comments on the KTUU site above are interesting. Already some defenders and some scuttlebutt coming out. (Amber may be a widow, I gather.) I can't open the charging documents link. Others may have more luck.

He is such a cutie and he does look happy! Maybe he's happy he is away from his abuser and everybody at the hospital is extra nice to him (like he deserves)

@Tundratot - I can open the PDF. I am going to read it now and will post if it says anything interesting that hasn't already been said here.

I'm also going to take a minute to read the comments as well. I'll get back to ya with my opinions/thoughts.

It won't let me copy from the document to share.....Blah

So far the only additional detail is that on Monday's incident he got mad at him for throwing toys. He says he sent the boy to his room first but when the child continued crying he then picked him up and threw him on the floor. It was then the boy appeared to stop breathing so he punched him in the chest 3 times. The child threw up.

The 2nd day Kelly did the same thing to him because Eli was pouting and Kelly became upset with him. So he threw him on the ground until again. From how it's worded he had stopped breathing that time as well.

The rest of it was published in the article. Nothing really to learn from reading the charging documents.

the child threw toys and started to cry
How very dare little Eli behave like a normal 2yo toddler. Throwing his toys, crying and *horror-of-horrors* ''pouting''???!! He totally provoked Jeremy - I mean, he must have known he had anger problems after seeing him slap his mummy around, and yet he still went and played up like that!

The mother is a dumb bitch for leaving that child with her abusive, violent piece of shit boyfriend. She should be charged with child endangerment, and Jeremy needs to die.

Yep that is exactly the kind of person I'd leave my imaginary kid with . It is one thing if she wants to fuck this guy and get slapped around , but she should be charged with something for leaving her kid with a person she knew was a violent ass .
