An Eastlake woman was arrested on Monday and charged with two counts of child endangering after police allegedly found her passed out drunk in her home, while with her children, ages three and five.
According to Eastlake Police Lt. Michael Maloney, the woman was taken into custody on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. after police responded to her home in the 900 block of East 349th Street.
Police were dispatched to the scene after receiving a call from a CEI employee who heard a child in distress at the home.
Maloney says that when officers arrived they found the three-year-old in the backyard of the home with the family’s dog.
According to Maloney, officers discovered that the dog had ripped off the child’s shirt and was biting the child’s pants, in an effort to remove the clothing from the child’s body. Maloney says the dog did not bite the child, only the clothing.
Officers went inside to find the five-year-old in the home and the mother passed out. Maloney says the woman was, “highly intoxicated”.
Maloney would not provide the mother’s name due to the department’s ongoing investigation, but officials at Willoughby’s Municipal Court tell Fox 8 News the woman charged is 29-year-old Mindy Sotak.
Sotak will be arraigned on the two child endangering charges on May 15th at 7:45 a.m.

The children were placed in the custody of their aunt according to Maloney.
