Son arrested in murder of Isle of Wight Co. couple

ISLE OF WIGHT CO. -- An arrest has been made in the murder of an Isle of Wight County couple on Friday.

58-year-old Sandy Joyner was found dead inside her Carrsville home Friday morning. Hours later, the body of her husband, 62-year-old Joe Joyner, was found on their property.

Joseph Charles "Jay" Joyner, Junior, 37, was arrested and is charged with first degree murder in the deaths of his father and step-mother.

Authorities said on Monday that Joe Joyner had been shot in the head. Sandra suffered from "massive blunt trauma," according to the sheriff's office.

They recovered a handgun in the Blackwater River on West Blackwater near a bridge. They believe it is the weapon used in the crime.

Mrs. Joyner was a nurse at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin. Mr. Joyner ran for the Isle of Wight County Board of Supervisors last year.

Finances motive behind murders?

It’s his understanding that Jay Joyner had lived in Louisiana with his wife and children.

There was a little more in the article that jay and his wife were splitting up and there home was in foreclosure and he was trying to get money from his father.

Many of us fall on hard times but that is no excuse to murder people who can't or won't help you out.
