Bail Bondsmen Brothers Found Fatally Shot
April 26, 2012
http://www.turnto23.com/southwest_co...77/detail.htmlBAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Two brothers who worked for their father's bail bond business have been shot to death while trying to confront a customer who had skipped bail on a drug paraphernalia charge.
Gunshots rang out at about 6:40 p.m. on Kamloops Drive. Officers said they found 23-year-old Brandon Nicolas Sims and 26-year-old Zachary Daniel Sims shot.
One of the men was found in the front yard with a single gunshot wound and the other was found inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Sgt. Mary DeGeare with the Bakersfield Police Department.
According to Brandon's Facebook page, he worked at the family-owned Bad Dog Bailbonds as a bails bondsman.
23 ABC called the business, and an employee who answered the phone confirmed that both of the brothers worked there and were on a job assignment when they were killed.
The employee also said their father was devastated and that Zachary had just come home from serving in the military.
Both Brandon and Zach graduated from Ridgeview High School.
The Bakersfield Police Department said two suspects are believed to have been involved.
DeGeare said neighbors saw a vehicle leave the scene. The vehicle was found nearby and DeGeare said a man was seen running from it. That man was identified as 25-year-old Zachary Perrick.
Perrick returned to the home Friday morning and was arrested on a warrant charging possession of drugs. Perrick lived a the home at 7812 Kamloops Drive.
Perrick was booked into the Kern County Jail.
Police have identified 26-year-old Stephen Michael Stewart as the shooter.
The California Bail Agents Association released a statement regarding the deaths of Brandon and Zachary.
"Our hearts go out to the families of bail agents Brandon and Zachary Sims of Bakersfield," said Vera Robles Dewitt, president off the CBAA. "In carrying out our role within the criminal justice system, we get used to assuming the financial and social responsibilities associated with bail bonds, but we should never forget the personal risks associated with the job, as well."
"These young men paid the ultimate price while seeking justice for a crime victim - by trying to ensure that a defendant showed up to stand trial in court. Unfortunately, this noble endeavor had a very tragic ending," Dewitt said.
