St. Paul, MN - A six-time felon is being held on federal weapons charges while he is being investigated regarding the alleged extortion of an Ohio State University student whose laptop was stolen. The laptop reportedly contained explicit pictures and videos of the owner.
Demonte Johntrell Latimore, 24, has been linked by police and FBI to email accounts used to extort money from the owner of the laptop.
According to police, on Dec. 5 a female college sophomore at Ohio State University reported that someone had stolen her Apple MacBook when she left is briefly unattended while at the campus library. Two weeks later, the student said she received an e-mail from a stranger: “Well you don’t know me but I’m sure I have something you want very badly back. The question is how BAD…..?? Oh yeah, you have a very lovely body,” it said.
According to the FBI’s Cyber Crime Task Force in Minneapolis, the e-mail coming from iwant300dollars@Gmail.com traced back to an email address in St. Paul, Minnesota. The woman would later receive an e-mail from bigmoneyyt@Gmail.com tracing back to the same account.
According to a sworn statement filed by the FBI, the young woman – a pre-med student – had a password-protected folder on her MacBook containing nude photos of herself and videos of her having sex with her boyfriend.…
