OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City police say they arrested a pregnant mother on suspicion of driving under the influence while her 5-year-old daughter was in the back seat.

Witnesses told police she was weaving between the lanes and hitting the curb which caused her car's tire to blow out.

Boyer told police she was having Braxton Hicks contractions, but police say she appeared unsteady with bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Police say the woman's daughter said, "I think mommy is sleepy."

Police say Boyer was taken to the hospital and tested positive for Soma and Xanax. Boyer has two prior convictions for DUI. She was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on a DUI charge.

A pregnant Oklahoma City woman arrested last week on complaints of driving under the influence of alcohol and child endangerment told The Oklahoman she has a high-risk pregnancy and regrets drinking three beers before getting behind the wheel.

Melissa Dawn Boyer, 29, was arrested after someone called 911 about 9:30 p.m. Thursday and reported a vehicle swerving in the 9300 block of S Santa Fe Avenue.

Another driver called police and followed the swerving vehicle until it stopped because of a flat tire, police said.

Officers arrived and met with Boyer, who had slurred speech and was unsteady on her feet, according to the police report.

She told officers she was five months pregnant and experiencing back pains. Police said Boyer also had her 5-year-old daughter in the vehicle with her at the time

Boyer said in a phone interview Monday she had just dropped her husband off at a mechanic's shop to pick up his vehicle and was on her way home when she got lost and noticed the vehicle had a flat tire.

She said she has a high-risk pregnancy and felt sick earlier in the day. Boyer said she felt like she was going to have a seizure and kept fighting it.

Man I hope she gets help, she has two little ones that need her. With two priors she is gonna be down for a while. I know everyone is gonna say she is a dumbass for doing dui's but addiction is an illness. I am not excusing her, just citing this as a something that needs to be treated. The courts idea of incarceration for duis is all wrong. That's why they have repeat offenders.

I agree, I just think the courts go about it all wrong, here anyways. Some learn, but those prone to addiction do not. No amount of punitive actions will curtail it until, like you said, it's too late.

Agree, she needs SERIOUS intervention. The idea of her 5yo back there probably not secure and that baby in side of her sloshing about in intoxicated crap. Fuckin hell!
