Saudi Toddler Kills Father Over PlayStation

A four-year-old boy shot and killed his father after he did not buy him a PlayStation, Arabic language media reported Monday.

“The boy pulled the trigger and a bullet hit his father in the head, killing him instantly,” the Sabq newspaper said in a report quoted by the Emirates247.com website.

Another paper, Sharq, said the boy is considered to be the “youngest killer” in Saudi Arabia. He is four years and seven months old.

The child had asked his father to buy him a PlayStation. The father returned home empty-handed and then put down his pistol while taking off his shirt. The little boy grabbed the gun, played with it and put his little finger in the trigger, accidentally shooting his father in the head.

Is there where the term "accidentally on purpose" comes into play? Did it happen while the kid was just goofing off with the gun or did he purposefully and pissed off, aim for somewhere else, miss, and shoot dad in the head?

In the original article I read in my paper last night theres no accidental
It was plain as day that he was pissed he came home without a Playstation and grabbed dads service revolver and shot him

An angry four-year-old Saudi boy shot and killed his father for refusing to buy him a PlayStation[...]
The Asharq daily, citing police in the southern Jizan area, said the child, aged four years and seven months, grabbed his father’s pistol and shot him in the head.

According to the newspaper, the child had asked his father to buy him a PlayStation and the shooting took place after the man returned home without the desired object.

As he was undressing, the man put the weapon down, which the child then grabbed and fired at him from close range.

4 yr old??? Damn..that's crazy. Kid must have been exposed to video games early and didn't realize when you shoot...you don't get another life :( Hard to grasp that at such a young age. So sad.
My kids have many times asked for game systems....we always say no. Never once have they tried to shoot us. They haven't gotten stabby with us yet either. Such angels.

    Bizarre.

The first article you posted quotes another Saudi source saying it was accidental. Like all things reported, who knows? But in the media, it's far more sensational to call the kid a murderer over a Playstation than to play up the accident angle.

I still wonder which way it was.

No kidding. The way the story reads, it implies the kid was angry at not getting a playstation and then it goes on to say it was "accidental"....which one is it?

Yeah the articles under google are half and half on the way they worded it

IF Saudi authorities think this is a case of murder, I wonder if they would punish the kid. Do they make exceptions for age? I don't know their laws and what little I do know make no sense to me.

Don't Saudi pistols have a safety? If not, then that's pretty stupid. And if yes, then wasn't it on in this case? Or did the kid take the safety off while he was 'playing' with the gun? If he knew how to take off the safety, aim and fire then he must have been familiar with handling a weapon, so his dad should have been more careful about where he put his loaded gun - especially if the kid was pissed at him for not getting him the PS. And didn't the kid picking up the gun then fiddling with it taking off the safety give the dad time to grab it back off him?

I don't believe a four-year-old can sit down and explain, "Well, I asked Dad to get me a PlayStation and he came home without one. So naturally, I shot him." So was there another adult in the house who's helpfully explaining how it's all the kid's fault? If so you'd think the police would look at them a bit closer.

I am really in agreement on this. My Daughter is gonna be four tomorrow and I really don't think she could articulate such a situation if it went down this way. To be honest I can't see her being so violet as to deliberately harm me for any reason either though.

She has been mad at me and told me so but never sought revenge. the few times she ever caused me pain she cried and felt awful about it so I'm not gonna buy this premeditated theory but even if it turns out to be true it's no one's fault but who ever left out the loaded weapon where a preschooler could find it.

My daughter bit me a couple times, but I can not imagine any toddler shooting someone on purpose.

I'm reading it as the child was upset that his father didn't bring home the play station, then distracted with the revolver, picked it up pointed, and shot dad, play-acting, having NO idea he'd cause any real harm, that the gun was loaded.

The 4yo might have acted out in anger, typical experimenting with his emotions, getting a reaction, etc. but not the intent in harming with the intent to kill and the permanence of that. What a terrible thing to happen to the child and father....the entire family. I hope the authorities are smart and fair on how they handle this tragedy.

My daughter understood the permanence of death at a young age. We go to a lot of funerals in our family. :( And she's been compassionate about grief since she could walk. She's an "old soul." But.. I know other kids do not understand stuff like this at such a young age. I don't know if it's her old soul, or if it's because we have a lot of death around us, but either way.

I feel a LOT like that cat most days! haha

Would a four-year-old have the strength and dexterity to hold, deliberately aim and fire a service revolver? My impression of handguns issued to police and military types is that they are fairly large (not Dirty Harry-size, but more than a .22) and need a noticeable amount of pressure on the trigger to fire. I'm extremely ignorant when it comes to guns, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
If the report is saying he used his "little finger" to mean the pinky rather than just "little finger" on a little hand, I can't even figure out how he would have aimed the gun at anything.
